still at Fuwarit, pretty special here, we think these are turtle hatching holes
apparently they hatch on this beach from now until May.
don’t mind turtles they’re OK

They have a nasty bite I think, but at least they are slow
Sure that’s not a crocodile burrow? Plenty able to switch from fresh to saltwater these days!
Looks like a sarlac might live there.
Lol, had to Google that:
“The Sarlacc rests in the sandy well known as the Great Pit of Carkoon, buried except for its massive mouth and beaked tongue. The strange beast’s lair was the site of many spectacles for Jabba the Hutt, who entertained himself by forcing prisoners into the creature’s gaping tentacled maw.”
That’s it, I’m never going in the sea again or to the beach either
I reckon I swam at least 100m breaststroke in the sea today. Does that count as my swim training starting/complete?!
It was our eldest’s idea, so we went with it. Mrs GB has been winter dipping every week since last Sept. She settled in much quicker than I did today as a result! It was bloody Baltic!
Our youngest is the most sensible. She was like ‘nah, F that!’
Yeah, I’m with the little one on this!
Saw yesterday that my local lake is opening next weekend. Can’t help but feel it’ll be bloody freezing
Ours was just under 12 degrees yesterday, some nutters swim all year round in there but needs another couple degrees more to tempt me in.
Same, batshit crazy guys swimming through the winter.
12° is doable, wouldn’t want to go too far over 1500m though I think. Having said that, it’s going to be so fresh as a first of the season.
12° seems to be a decent barometer to whether it’s too cold I reckon. No colder!
15 is my absolute cut off. I cant see the appeal unless you are specifically training for a cold race.
I dont do a huge amount of OW anyway leading up to a race and not going to torture myself for a shit session.
Our local one is open, there is a long running joke about the lake temps they report being taken from a puddle next to the lake.
I think it was 12° at Helvellyn in 2020 - it was just about ok. Getting out into the pissing rain. No so much
I can swim in 12 degrees but it’s pointless for swim training as I can’t feel my fingers after half a lap & technique/speed is pants.
My technique completely breaks down at 17c and under, just struggle to turn my arms over.
@gingerbongo, why are your nipples black?
I went in the local lake last week at 11C. Only 20 mins, certainly not training, but I did it last year to acclimatise and by 15C it feels balmy.
I can cope with cold feet and hands, just my face is the problem. Takes a while before I can swim face down, and can go from feeling fine to ‘crap I’m cold’ very quickly. 2nd session planned tomorrow.
My local lake has a big following of year round skins swimmers. Head up breaststroke in a wooly hat, but they love it. I’m told they don’t like to wear wetsuits because they get too cold getting changed out of it after their dip. Much quicker to just chuck the obligatory dry robe on and head to the cafe.
Sea 23C here, still feeling a bit chilly to me.
26, 27, 28 better
12 degrees? Just no
Wont get sharks in 12 degree water though. They like it warm also.
Same. It fascinates me and I’m quite envious.
Def something I want to do when I’m older and female… As they seem to have the balls for it ironically.
Yeah but what were those things snaffling the seals off the iceberg in Frozen Planet? Orcas or something? They are only not sharks on a technicality, if I was ref they’d get the shark card
