Open water swim season starting

+1

I’ve got a 13yr old wettie that’s used early season & there’s been rips/holes aplenty in the neoprene due to my cack-handedness but no noticeable degradation of the material from the use of vaseline.

somewhat akin to @fruit_thief’s comment - KY Jelly is used by a lot of people as a wetsuit lube.

My son set his alarm to get him up for overtime this morning at 5:30am. It failed to wake him but did wake me so I got myself down to The Dee for a 2km dip.

Great conditions, out before the rowers & SUPers. I should do it more often.

Chester triathlons tomorrow & there are thunder storms forecast this afternoon/evening. This normally means that the water treatment plants/sewers can’t cope so I expect the athletes will be swimming in condoms, tampons, nappies & :poop:.

Unfortunately, for that reason I never enter a Chester Tri event in advance.

Perfect for swimming.

375m in 12 minutes.
Running shorts. No goggles.
Heads up breastroke avoiding the SUPers, kayaks and general chaos at Pickmere.

But it’s free. :joy::white_check_mark:

Lake was a bit warmer than I expected this morning, probably about 18c, still would have liked it a bit warmer :joy:

Windermere 21c today for the great north swim

Inspiring to see that many people at an event, compared to the sparcity of Australia. Pros/cons when faced with road traffic here though!

I think that swim always gets good numbers, it’s been a lot warmer over that side of the country for a few weeks but I’d have thought Windermere would take some warming.

Derwent must be nice at the Keswick end.

The roads weren’t designed for that traffic though, I think you got the ferry from Ambleside when I did it :thinking:

Yup!
Was mental last weekend.
We arrived, spent 50mins looking for a parking space, then ended up two miles away.
Should park at Booths like I usually do and walk down :white_check_mark:

Any recommendations for goggle anti-fog, spitting in them doesn’t work and unless they’re almost new they always fog. Or are they all about the same?

For quite a while now I’ve been putting them on as dryly as possible - no spit, no quick dunk beforehand and seem to go alright with my goggles I think I’ve got three sets on the go - all Zone3

I guess it’s all how they fit to your face etc

I hesitate to recommend this because there is obviously peril, especially if the goggles leak and end up with water in your eye. But, smearing the inside with soap, shower gel or shampoo, a quick rinse in the water, and they never fog.

I’ve heard of that before, they don’t leak and and I always try and put them on dry. I think I’ve just got sweaty eyes :joy:

I might just try this speedo stuff from Amazon.

I use Johnson’s Baby Shampoo, which I’d seen recommended somewhere else. I guess the reason is that if you don’t wash it out thoroughly it shouldn’t irritate too much.

I’m another that puts them on dry, seems to work ok - Zogg Predators.

I’d hesitate to ask joex :grimacing:

Formaldehyde works for me :white_check_mark::+1:t3:
Although it can cause corneal lesions, so take care!

I’ve got along with both of these:-

First swim for around 1 year, just a quick dip in Loch Ken. Very peaceful, a lovely place to swim.

Garmin thinks the water temperature was 20c which felt about right.

I was going to suggest RainX or something but I’m not sure how skin friendly those things are?
I don’t use them on my helmet as I have a Pinlock 120.
