Open water swim season starting

Wonders why he has a bad back :joy:

Finally got it the river tonight, was really pleasant, possibly a bit warmer than the lake was on Saturday but we’ve had two warm days.

Only did 1K but would have been 3 minutes faster than Saturday  although it was much faster upstream but I think that was the wind direction being easterly.

The anti-fog for the goggles was useless, unless I either didn’t use enough or I’ve got some overly hot eyes!

Forgot to ask when I posted on here the other day.

With these sizzling temps, who is swimming outdoors in their trisuit only, or maybe jammers? I was just wondering whether the water is that warm?

I am a wimp and I have never found the water warm enough for no wetsuit.

hah same here so far but I thought I would check in case it’s melting hot without one!

I swam on the west coast in jammers at the weekend. If you ignore the ridiculous amount of jellys in the sea lochs just now it was fine. Generally, I’m in a wettie all year round though.

It’s not THAT warm.

Doesn’t it depend on the depth of the water? Shallower waters isn’t bad at all at the moment.

I’ve just swum 3.8km in skins. Water temp was a lovely 25.4° (allegedly)

Water temp and air very similar tbf

I was slow AF but loved it

Yeah, it’s warmAF.
I did 300m skins Saturday and fell in enough skins on Sunday, too.

If I wanted to go to the hell of rules that is my local organised lake, I’d be going skins.

Sea is gorgeous at the moment. Was in for about half an hour just bobbing about yesterday in just a pair of boardies. Not even starting to get cold.

Swam in my wettie today just to loosen it up and to get used to it.

Not a bad way to start the day. Now sat with the wife enjoying a nice breakfast in the cafe.

1st swim in the Snugg wetsuit this morning & did my fastest laps of the year with less effort too despite the choppy conditions so pretty happy .
Snugg is actually a good descriprion as the suit is a snugg fit without needing to be stretched on.

Any recommendations for some neoprene boots/socks?

Ideally looking for more padded sole for rocky entries

I use Zone3 heat-tech socks in autumn/spring and they’ve stood up well to rocky entries. They’re not particularly padded but have good grip and seem to be durable.

Good timing this thread getting revived. A new Zone3 Agile thermal wettie arrived yesterday for me. They’ve a sale on so it was a bargain. I wanted a thermal one as I’m freezing my tits off even in summer in my old Orca.
