Outlaw 2023

I also want to know know why the hell Belvoir is pronounced ‘beaver’.

Why is Bath pronounced “Baarrrth”?
Marylebone.
Teignmouth.
Cholmondley.
Leominster.

Loads of ‘em.
This country is weird.

Earlier point; TrainingPeaks parameters were correct. I’d just bought my power pedals and did every 100km ride at 227W. FTP was about 260W and I was 77kg. I’d also ran a 1:20 half marathon earlier that year off a few 8 mile runs and a week of no running before the event :person_shrugging:t3::joy:
Think my run CTL for that was about 20.
All numbers innit. Utterly meaningless.

Fun race for a couple of goes, did mine in 2021 and 2022.

Sits neatly between the low key niche events and the hype/cost etc of IM.

Last lap round the lake is horrible, especially if windy. Bone rattling roads for parts of the bike.

iPlayer for that

Ok, got it…
Early parking needed for a quick getaway (I’m camping so not an issue for me)
Swim - embrace goose excrement, out and back, try not to smack the buoys
T1 - long run, so get top half out of wetsuit early
Bike - Avoid speed bump at start and rough arse track on way back, one hill at 50 miles (80k) - spin up it
T2 - another long run, probably not best in cleats?
Run - full distance  , enter zen-like state to avoid boredom, be prepared for Victoria bridge
Finish - not much razzmatazz, grab food and head off for a beer.

Are they still doing the mass start this year? We had a Covid enforced rolling start in 2021, then they went back to the mass start in 2022. Nice nostalgia trip if you remember the epic punch ups during the IM mass start days.

How are numbers this year? Felt like Outlaw Half was struggling/much smaller than previously this year and it hald sold out before.

Swim.
Don’t be dead cocky and breathe just to the left to avoid sighting … Thinking you’ll just maintain the distance to the bank.

You can apparently miss the turn bouy :see_no_evil:

Not Outlaw but I sighted on the buoy once and was arrow straight. In fact I didn’t miss it :face_with_head_bandage:

Did we???

There was plenty of biff in my swim :person_shrugging:t3:

@Tupperware - I’m only taking the mick about Countryfile. I used to live 18miles away and was home by 6pm, unpacked and lounging by 7pm. All ready for work the next day :face_with_peeking_eye:

Just letting my personality shine through

Seems by popular request  they added more laps of the lake? No Victoria bridge section it seems.

Still 4 laps isn’t it? It was always 4. (unless it changed?)

Oh I thought they added another one judging by the complaints on Facebook :person_shrugging:.
When I first read it I thought it sounded good as they removed the one hill mentioned above.

That’s very similar to the 2010-2013 run course.
Think it dropped to 3 lake laps last couple of times I did it (2019? And 2021?)

Ah I see, that makes sense then. Bloody hell, 5 laps would not be pleasant around there.

HOOTERS aid station, most overhyped non event, ever.

I think the worst bit wasn’t the number of laps so much as you came back from the second lap by the Trent, did a lap of the lake. Then had run past the finish line to run around again.

I’ve seen one athlete got lost on the bike cours, anyone else race there yesterday?

@Toyota_Crown put in a stealthy 11h21 :+1:

Yeah I was there, not exactly what I was hoping for but ground it out in the end .

1:10/5:11/3:54 - 10:27

Run involved nausea, puking followed by hamstring cramps, so licking my wounds today :joy:. It was windy AF most of the day, but the rain held off until near the end.

There were a couple of times on the bike where corners were signposted quite late and if the guys managing the junction weren’t paying attention I guess you could go wrong. One chap in front of me saw a T junction late and then skidded and came off at quite high speed and then forced me to skid over to the other side of the road. But seemed ok once we got him upright and bike seemed to be usable after putting the chain on and bending the brake levers back in place .

@Toyota_Crown was there as well, obvs

ETA, that poxy lane at the end claimed my tool bottle :sob:.

Well done for keeping going, nothing worse than a bad stomach on the run.
