Bit more tourism for me today at Gateshead, nice but undulating course. Finished in 20:37 which was better than I thought. Was surprised when I looked at the watch with 300 to go and it still said 19:xx

A bit of tourism for me too. Dropped the Mrs off at Gatwick at 6:30. Drove to the in-laws and dropped the kids off then met a mate down in Pompey at the Lakeside Parkrun.
Not a bad course but three dead turns didn’t help things, was pancake flat though.
Very congested start but made my way just off the front group, 3 were up the road but I ran out of road to catch 4th place. Pleased to see ~3:40 kms though after being rough at the start of the week and not having run since last saturday - had no kick at the end though. Also had it slightly long, the watch beeped 5km at 18:41 but I crossed the line dead on 19!
Had a poor night’s sleep & woke to see my alarm showing 0815
. Cursed & faffed my way around the house getting my shit together & ran to my local Wepre.
Reasonable, but sticky conditions underfoot. Ideal for my brilliant Nike Wildhorse
.
Led until the last 200m when the lad that had been sitting on my shoulder made his Meurten move & flew away. People like him need to have more ambition, take the run on earlier & he’d get a much better time
. Looking at his Strava account he’s really chuffed with his result & will have difficulty getting to sleep with his boner tonight
.
Happy to knock a good minute off my NYD time & be close to my best summer times.
Send him my way, I’ll teach him The Ways of the Good Start ![]()

Cruised the first KM in Z1 ![]()
We need todays splits, not glory days splits.
@mw22 - David Bishop, ex-ITU athlete, brother of Tom Bishop. yeah. I think you get the Luffbra effect there. Those were certainly my “glory” days - chasing that lot up and down the Raynesway bypass ![]()

True facts. Just add a minute to thirty seconds per km ![]()

Lower HR, total lack of trying ![]()
Glory days would be pre-parkrun, you know, where you had to pay and actually wear a number ![]()
Those two above are from last year (when I was overweight and unfit after my poorly ankle) and are both a bit slow.
Below is today
Regular parkrun for us. LO went 24.55 and I went 24.59. Very muddy.
LO ran with Mrs FP today as she was feeling a bit under the weather.
I decided to try and hang with the 23 pacer but failed.
23.19 for me
3/24 in my AG and a score of 67%.
Much work to do!
A plod for me today. Felt absolutely battered from my swim last night.
All relative though I guess, never felt like I got out of 2nd or 3rd gear and I was just over 20 minutes
More tourism for me today, back in Newcastle again at Leazes Park. This one was slightly flatter than last week. Big field though because one of the local ones was cancelled.
Felt abysmal, heavy legs & couldn’t get going, last K was a real slog and I just about gave up. Got over the line in 20:15 (Garmin fumble though!) and was a bit surprised about that especially as the HR wasn’t that high.
That time would usually get me inside the top 10, but today I was 28th! A 10 year old lad was just in front! So a lot of younger lads appeared from somewhere.
Not sure what is going on with my running atm, it felt a lot harder than a 20:15 should be, even including a little drag 3 times.
24.26 for LO today, with a score of 71.86%
Drank four pints after work yesterday - burning my stomach this morning - did do another lap as penance and feeling much better for it!
Did a 5km warm up, 20:25 for parkrun, then had 2 flat white and 2 cakes (3 people from the club celebrating milestones), then went for a 6km cool down. Making it a very long run day by my standards. Cool down would have been longer but the coffee and cakes had me walking home ![]()
P2 for @JibberJim
It was actually my “official” 100th parkrun, so maybe I should’ve been providing cakes too, but I didn’t tell the director… I should’ve actually gone with the winner for the first lap, he took 100m out of me in the first few hundred, then stayed the same until the hill, it was a fast day and I possibly would’ve been close to PB pace and then I could’ve found out if I had the mental effort to carry on.
But an easy 18:47 is good, sadly didn’t even beat the 1st place on age grading despite being an old fogey, but at least I don’t need to spend the rest of the day revising for my GCSE’s…
You can really go off some people….![]()
Nice one, Jim!

I don’t believe anybody does this.
