Parkrun

I think I finished 800th today.

I did though leave my gaff at gone 9 though

Glorious morning here, had to pop up to the post office to get a bb tool they couldn’t fit through my letterbox and just knocking a flat white back

Had fun weaving through the tail end of the field, I think the winner ran a 13:**

Did you nip into the Nike outlet at Cheshire Oaks while you were there?

A guy who used to be in my running club just ran a 16m14 park run at Poole

mentioning it because he joined the club maybe 10 or 12 years ago and was pretty average, maybe a low 40s 10km type of guy. But has just got faster and faster every year.

Think he hooked up with a more serious club a few years back and has been doing some really impressive stuff in training (rather than bimbling round the rural bridleways for an hour before convening in the pub, which my old club specialised in).

Opens at 9am on Saturday. Need to give parkrun a miss to make the most of the early start.

There was a quick local 5k race last night with quite a few people from my club smashing PBs (one went 14:54 and 3 were sub-16), so was feeling rather inspired this morning and went off rather quick. Was sub-18 (and well inside PB) pace for the first 2km, but after the hill to finish the first lap decided it wasn’t happening and I didn’t fancy really suffering so backed off.

No, managed to resist the T2’s but might have a mooch in Rapha later :joy:

Are you some kind of celebrity stalker  yeah, back for Substance tonight :grinning:

Supposed to be giving blood later though!

You’ve just reminded me, I did that on Wednesday, maybe trying to smash out a PB today was a bit too soon?

I’d say so, usually 2 weeks at least before I feel alright at hard effort, steady pace is usually fine though.

After passing you a few hundred m’s from the finish, I then heard this fast finishing sprinting behind me with 100m to go, and felt I should keep you behind - only to get to the finish and find out it was some other bloke sprinting from who knows where!

I took it easy and ran a very even pace, actually pacing a guy going for a PB (I found out, after I apologised to him for cheerily thanking every marshall and the fans lining the course) and he beat it by 2secs. I’d run 4.5km there and totally over-dressed, and still feeling ropey enough that I shouldn’t push it.

Having failed at my own PB attempt yesterday, back at again today with the eldest. He’s not been close for a while. Without the sun out this morning it was much colder than yesterday.

As we approached the km marker I got my phone out and checked his current PB, which was 13:50. The km flashed up almost exactly 7:00, so I knew it might be on with some gentle encouragement. My main aim was to stop him doing the sprint then walk technique and try to pace more evenly. He smashed out a negative split and took 10s off.

Sounds like the replacement parkrun to my local one that couldn’t get permission again after Covid is starting this weekend.

It’s actually where I do a lot of my running at the walkway , it’s an out and back and quite narrow though so if they start getting big numbers it could be busy.

Think I’ll pop along this weekend

Looks like it’s also the letter W for my sad alphabet challenge :joy: and an event 1!

what letters are you missing? I guess X might be a tough nut to crack, unless maybe you bend the rules a little & pop down to GB’s livestreamed localšŸ¤”

Yes I think it’s a given that Exmoor is as close as you can get

You’ve also got to go to South Africa, Poland or Zillmere parkrun, Brisbane to tick off Z

W isn’t too bad for me to tick off, I’ve just got to get over to Wimbledon and there are quite a few I can tick off all In the local vicinity - can’t be bothered to travel further than Bushy though

There’s no X’s anywhere so it’s only 25.

I’ve still got to get,

I
U
W - hopefully this weekend or soon after
K - Keswick is my closest
Q - a few queens in Glasgow and Belfast!
Y - York is quite close
Z - this involves going to The Hague or Poland!

There’s a few I’d and U’s in the UK but they’ll be a holiday job :joy:
