A guy who used to be in my running club just ran a 16m14 park run at Poole
mentioning it because he joined the club maybe 10 or 12 years ago and was pretty average, maybe a low 40s 10km type of guy. But has just got faster and faster every year.
Think he hooked up with a more serious club a few years back and has been doing some really impressive stuff in training (rather than bimbling round the rural bridleways for an hour before convening in the pub, which my old club specialised in).
There was a quick local 5k race last night with quite a few people from my club smashing PBs (one went 14:54 and 3 were sub-16), so was feeling rather inspired this morning and went off rather quick. Was sub-18 (and well inside PB) pace for the first 2km, but after the hill to finish the first lap decided it wasnāt happening and I didnāt fancy really suffering so backed off.
After passing you a few hundred mās from the finish, I then heard this fast finishing sprinting behind me with 100m to go, and felt I should keep you behind - only to get to the finish and find out it was some other bloke sprinting from who knows where!
I took it easy and ran a very even pace, actually pacing a guy going for a PB (I found out, after I apologised to him for cheerily thanking every marshall and the fans lining the course) and he beat it by 2secs. Iād run 4.5km there and totally over-dressed, and still feeling ropey enough that I shouldnāt push it.
Having failed at my own PB attempt yesterday, back at again today with the eldest. Heās not been close for a while. Without the sun out this morning it was much colder than yesterday.
As we approached the km marker I got my phone out and checked his current PB, which was 13:50. The km flashed up almost exactly 7:00, so I knew it might be on with some gentle encouragement. My main aim was to stop him doing the sprint then walk technique and try to pace more evenly. He smashed out a negative split and took 10s off.
Sounds like the replacement parkrun to my local one that couldnāt get permission again after Covid is starting this weekend.
Itās actually where I do a lot of my running at the walkway , itās an out and back and quite narrow though so if they start getting big numbers it could be busy.
Think Iāll pop along this weekend
Looks like itās also the letter W for my sad alphabet challenge and an event 1!
what letters are you missing? I guess X might be a tough nut to crack, unless maybe you bend the rules a little & pop down to GBās livestreamed localš¤
Yes I think itās a given that Exmoor is as close as you can get
Youāve also got to go to South Africa, Poland or Zillmere parkrun, Brisbane to tick off Z
W isnāt too bad for me to tick off, Iāve just got to get over to Wimbledon and there are quite a few I can tick off all In the local vicinity - canāt be bothered to travel further than Bushy though
I
U
W - hopefully this weekend or soon after
K - Keswick is my closest
Q - a few queens in Glasgow and Belfast!
Y - York is quite close
Z - this involves going to The Hague or Poland!
Thereās a few Iād and Uās in the UK but theyāll be a holiday job
