Windy night here in north Devon, tent stayed up but it was being blown about all night. Not the greatest nights sleep so gave Woolacombe Dunes parkrun a miss. Iāve done it before, itās a bit of a beast, wanted to do it again but it just wasnāt to be.
You did well to still be here after that. The chairs on our balconies were moving around all night but didnāt take off as there is a glass barrier in front of them but that wind was straight into the sliding doors of the bedroom and lounge.
Completely the opposite direction to what it was Friday morning.
We are back in Somt but even early doors, the roads were busier than I thought theyād be and i saw a few leaving last night. (which is what we usually do).
Felt ok today , a minute faster than last week (good), a minute slower than last year (bad)
everyone got 59m59s today in Henstridge for some reason ![]()

Usually means they donāt have enough volunteers or the upload failed ![]()
think it might have been volunteers, there was something muttered at the beginning. Have made a note to volunteer at next chance
F**k yeah! ![]()
Thereās a little bit of life left in these old legs after all. Managed to out kick a mate on the last 200m.
Went in expecting a sub 18. Wouldāve been pissed off if I didnāt hit that. I thought maybe a 17.30 was possible and wouldāve been well chuffed.
Ended up with a 16.53/4 or something. Mega happy with that off IM training and literally zero speedwork.
Was happy when I saw a mate at the start who I know is in 17-1730 shape. So thought Iād stick with him and see what happens. Really good group of 5 of us working together. Shelled the fast starters after a km or so.
Worked well together when we turned into the wind at about 2km in. 1 guy fell off with a km or so to go and my mate got a gap of 5-10m just after the final turn with 600m or so to go.
I cranked the pace really gently. Left the guy next to me and closed the gap to my mate. Pushed last with about 250m to go keeping an eye on him, but reserving one final gear. He responded and we kept even for another 100m or so and then I hit the NOS button and just emptied the tank and gapped him.
Really chuffed. ![]()

Haha. Itās not, itās a pan flat seafront with 3 dead turns.
Yeah thatās my mate Jody. I asked if he was coming down today. He loves it!

Top work
Also second for me
but outsprinted by some kid
in a field of 27 ![]()
Continuing the tourist thing, this was 4 laps round a field and track with 100M ascent, definitely one of the toughest on the circuit.
Kid legged it off and I expected him to just go bang after a few minutes but fair play he didnāt. Dragged it back and we went round together, I generally just went past on the climb but heād fight back. He had a go on the grassy descent with 1K to go but I got back again. Then with 150m to go he put a surge in and I didnāt really have energy or desire to stay with him.
Fair play to him though as his dad said heād done a 90 second PB and he was sprawled out on the floor for about 5 minutes
so he can certainly dig deep.
Anyway 21:41 on that course feels like about 20:00 on a flat course so Iām well pleased with that. Leg still feels weird but pushed harder this week and had a go at a couple of rough descents.
On the other end of the speed spectrum. This years slowest - dressed as a ābrideā. No time to get a parkrun next weekend so the tradition had to be continued today.
Was a bit of a wedding run at mine today too, a guy is getting married later so quite a few from the athletics club turned up. They didnāt take it so leisurely though and locked out the top 6 places.
I ended up with a new pair of trainers this week, having offered to give my Saucony Endorphin Pro 2s away as I donāt get on with them, the chap who took them ended up giving me a pair of Adidas Adizero Prime X Strung in return. So I took them for a blast, took them very easy around the corner and potholes as the 50mm stack is a potential ankle breaker.
Was hoping to dip under 19 but just failed with a 19:02
Outstanding (hey that rhymes with sandbagging !
). Well done mate ![]()
Well Done Jeff.
29.15 for me, ran 18km before we started with full kit (and some added trauma!). I knew I wasnāt up for a faster one with LO, so we ran as a family with LO turning it up away from us with 600 mtrs to and then sprinted like a girl possesed to take some places in the last 200.
My right calf has pulled up mega tight though and I have canned a planned mtb ride tomorrow. ![]()
Crystal Palace parkrun with my sister today, I ran off and joined up on final lap. It was her 3rd parkrun as she gets hip pain when running too much. She was hoping for sub 40 but got a 32. Hopefully no pain and motivation for her to keep going and go sub 30! The course is hillier than I remember but last time I ran it was in 2016.
Oohh turns out I was slow on my watch. Got a 16.51 which I am pretty sure is a parkrun PB.
Eta - yup. With an Age Grading of 80.42%.
I think maybe only 5 secs off my all time pb too!
Genuinely shocked by that.
