Parkrun

Had planned on doing parkrun #150 this morning, when I was in the kitchen I saw something in the back garden, it was the hedgehog from a couple of nights ago asleep outside and it’s been sub-zero overnight.

So recue mode instead, poor thing has ticks on it, just about to take it to the local rescue, fairly sure it is alive but not very well :frowning: despite making it through winter.

Will run or cycle later, it’s a glorious but cold day.

Freezing here this morning but lots of sunshine.

Quite liking the extended commute to Bushy now. It’s about 3.5km to get there now so quite a nice warm up and cool down. Made it on time so was sort of near the front. Was quite slippy in places so not super fast. I do think though it’s my fastest of the year, maybe a mid 20

Number 95 today!

Our run (Bognor Regis) was delayed by about 20 minutes this morning after one of our volunteers (elderly lady) fainted (I think) near the start area at about 8:55 and we waited for an ambulance. Part way round another lady fell over and I think bashed her face up a bit.

My run was 23:21 and my once a week running and not much in between rewards me with more calories being burnt and a sky high heart rate!

At the finish I chatted to another runner (one of the many run directors we have here) and he had to pretty much break up a fist fight between two male runners during the run. Apparently one cut up the other and it didn’t go down well. Cripes!

Sounds like there was some abusive language and contact at the other local parkrun today. I have a feeling it may have been one of the young guys from the local athletics club, who I think went en mass due to the National XC cancellation. The first finisher is unknown, but I saw the photos and he has some previous. Shouting “track” at parkrun tail walkers caused a bit of confusion

Sub-21 for me today having pretty much not run for 2 months and being told yesterday to only run easily for 4 mins at a time. Oops.

Eldest just about made it round his second one, but wasn’t happy from halfway. I was sent to go and get him an apple juice. He still managed a decent sprint finish for his ~50 minutes :joy:

they will be fighting over who has the course record next…

this is where such levels of elitism (arrogance) meet attempts to be ‘inclusive’…

could he not tell the difference?

No, this is what happens when selfish pr*cks meet anyone.

Sadly it didn’t make it :smiling_face_with_tear:

Heading down for the eldest’s debut proper parkrun today. She’s always massively rejected it for some reason so we’ve not pushed it. But she’s seemed keen this week - a little less so this morning.

Fingers crossed she just settles in and enjoys herself.

It’s pissing it down here!

(Although my brother in-law has just text a pic from Bristol and they have a nice blanket of snow)

Last minute cancellation for ours so a little zwift instead will be the plan as we can’t be bothered to drive six miles to the next one from us.

Back on it after the spiky mammal :hedgehog: incident last week with a bit of tourism. Even managed to get the GF out of bed by 7:20 with the lure of fish and chips at Whitby :flushed:

Nice course on an old railway line with the first 2k on a gradual ascent with 2k on trail. Good view of the abbey in the distance on the way back.

Tried not to batter myself with the half marathon tomorrow and was a bit surprised to do 21:55

Event 150 and location 50 for me

I saw that picture of Bristol as well, decent bit of snow!

Rained for most of my run and is sunny now

What a load of tosh!

They still celebrate 50, 100 and 250 runs.

When they stop doing that, I might return.
As that’s an equal form of achievement to a sub-16. Removing personal statistics? My arse they ha have.

Results should be sorted alphabetically if they want to remove times - or just don’t publish results at all? Only a runner can see their time.
Randomise token allocation. Etc etc.

It’s utter bollocks and half arsed.

And for that reason, I’m out.

My experience of Parkrun hasn’t changed since the removal of the fastest times, I never look on the course pages anyway.

I just turn up, push as much as I can, chat to a few mates and bugger off home for a coffee!

It was foul at Bushy today, majorly flooded, I possibly ran a mid 20 but felt good doing so hopefully a tiny smidgeon of fitness creeping back

Yeah just don’t worry about the furore. Get what you want from it.

Beautiful blue skies and sunshine down here. Bitter wind though.

Eldest did great. She found the distance quite tricky and had her old man chattering constantly in her ear. But she stuck with it for a tad over 26. Very proud dad.

At risk of sounding like a total :bellhop_bell: :end:. But it was a very different experience to the few I’ve done so far. Sooo many people. And it took an age to get through the first 400m with road furniture and bottlenecks and people everywhere! Much easier off the front! :see_no_evil::joy: :joy:
