Aye, 26 is solid
Crikey, from my home parkrun on Saturday, hope heās alright.
Update from Saturdayās Incident. Official post
Apologies for the āradio silenceā so to speak since Saturday morning it was as per parkrun protocols when something serious happens.
As some of you may have witnessed on Saturday we had a runner collapse near the visitor centre/finish area which required first aid from parkrunners and emergency services. Below is an update for you all.
After finishing their run and being scanned a runner was talking, collapsed and went in to cardiac arrest. Luckily where he collapsed and the proximity of who was around him saved his life. Within 3 mins of collapse he had been assessed, and given a round of CPR, shocked by Defib and was luckily back with us.
The runner was taken to hospital and is expected to make a full recovery following some surgery this week.
I am not naming the runner and volunteers in this post. However after they have commented further posts will go up today
Wow! That guy is so lucky to have had that happen there. Out on the course and it may well have been a very different update.
I hope he does make a full recovery in good time.
Yeah, itās a 2k lap so furthest is around 1k but it would have taken time to find out and get the defib there.
Usually community police and others that will be trained and as itās a popular race Iām guessing thereās the odd doctor or nurse etc
If no-one else is taking responsibility for using a defib you can only help by having a go. The machine tells you what to do & wonāt shock unless it senses a requirement for it.
I did a course on using one at work and they pretty much said the same thing, and often thereās an emergency number that will talk you through it.
They donāt shock if thereās any pulse and the trainer said, if it shocks theyāre already dead and you arenāt going to make them worse!
I do the 3 yearly 1st aid at work course, mainly for coaching but for work now as well as they pay for it rather than me. Everyone should have CPR training at the very least and as I was told once, if you donāt break a rib you havenāt done it properly They also , the last couple of times at least, teach you the defib stuff and its very easy. was told the same, if thereās a pulse it wont operate and it literally talks you through what to do. There should be more done to get them everywhere but they arenāt cheap
Jesus !
Thatās heavy.
Glad all are ok
Marshalling again today, didnāt want to risk the hamstring by running too fast and that was before feeling unwell yesterday.
Cold easterly though and leaving my coat at home didnāt help luckily my car has a lot of spare running kit and waterproof jackets in it
Edit: hoping for some tourism in Italy next week
Ours was canned again, 3rd week in a row.
Pretty breezy here but otherwise a pretty nice morning. Felt absolutely rough though, chest hurts and Iāve picked up a bit of a cough. Pushed on through and finished just off the 20 minute pacer but she must have been a little off that target too.
#97 today
Warm and sunny today!
Turned ip at 8:59 only to see the timekeepers set the horde off early - bastards!
Ours was canned again.
Made it to Mensola parkrun today, just outside Florence
3 lap course on track with a few muddy turns, must have had a lot of rain. Only a small event and probably as many tourists including a young lad from Clapham that won with a long 17.
As per the training thread, a 4 minute first K on an uphill drag wasnāt going to end well
Think I finished in about 21:30 but it was a bit long.
7 countries now
Well done Jeff
Slight aside but there was a post from parkrun HQ last week which had a paragraph saying they were trying to discourage tourism due to the environmental impact
Maybe Greta is the next CEO!
Not sure many people will take note and in the grand scheme of things I doubt itās the biggest risk to the planet!
Paging the southwest sandbagger, did you get under 18 or not
Heās bloody close
Well technically the course is a bit long - about 50m - at the mo due to some roadworks on the seafront.
So an official 18.03.
Wasnāt sure what pace to go out at. Was thinking an 18.30 would be good. But found a guy I know and he seemed to be there or thereabouts and is a good solid runner.
Ended up going quicker every km pretty much. Maybe had a bit more in the tank if I went full deep. But actually felt really controlled and comfortable. Quite happy off limited volume.
First parkrun for me in a while today, I am finding myself otherwise engaged most Saturday mornings. Have had a bit of a cold for the past few days and the hill played havoc with my lungs the second time up. Course was slightly modified due to the recent flooding. It was the 100th Amersham parkrun and my 50th at the venue and one of my slowest.
