Parkrun

The Kingston ParkRun rd was saying on FB that she’d make a call in the morning, so worth checking before heading out.

Not running but Welsh rugby games at all levels including community games have been cancelled today.

It’s cancelled. Brooklands is the only one locally. Suspect it’ll be overwhelmed - it is windy AF out there too!

Ours was cancelled at about 8am. I went on the turbo instead for half an hour.

We seem to be in the calm before the storm, I checked the course early just in case but it was fine, usual puddles and sloppy in places but better than a fortnight ago in the snow.

Hardly any wind and just a bit of rain. But only about 80 runners which is fairly low.

There’s an orienteering event on now which I’ve always fancied trying but saving my legs.

Due to the gate being locked and the key I had not working I ended up doing 8k

Edit: unlike the rest of the country I think they were all on locally.

Ours was on. Personally it was my second least favourite parkrun in terms of the conditions, my cheeks were in agony down the first straight with the wind and rain. Least favourite was in sleet not long after the COVID restart. A snood would have made a world of difference. Fortunately you only really feel it on 1/3 of the lap as the course is kind of triangular, but knowing you have to face it again on the 2nd lap isn’t a fun proposition.

Ours was on, it was fine, windy and very puddle-y, so very slow, but that’s pretty normal, the only people complaining were those grossly under-dressed…

On the reverse laps I always do after, there was a woman in just a bra, but she had about a ~10year old with here wearing an obviously massively over-sized t-shirt, so I assume that was some motherly love…

Bizarrely the one parkrun that did happen round here was @Poet local. But it’s in the park that has had 2 people killed by falling trees :woman_shrugging:t4:

It’s my home parkrun’s 800th event tomorrow so I’m planning going, expecting a few more than the usual ~400 but not sure how many. I think my first one was event 120, and I’ve still only done about 45 there :joy:

Loosely planning to get under 21 and see how it feels in the hope I might be around 90 minutes at the Brass Monkey in about 4 weeks.

Good luck Jazzy J!?

Mob match tomorrow vs Full On Tri, should be a good turnout, weather is looking ok, but cold though.

20:12 for a years best, and 10th place, although fairly sure the minus temperatures might have put a few off. Still, 3 minutes and 30 places higher than a few months ago. And more importantly still holding off @FatPom LO

Seems I was wrong this morning and there was less people than usual  I’m guessing a combination of Christmas parties etc.

Bit cold for me, about 3c and a few patches of frost in a couple of places.

Slightly suicidal first K :joy: but settled after that, watch clicked for 5K on 20:14 but it’s another 100M from there so managed 20:35.

Fairly pleased as I could have kept going a bit longer at that pace and might give me a chance of breaking 90 minutes in 4 weeks if there’s no setbacks.

Decent run from today, not sure where it came from but just snuck under 19.

Good turnout from the club, Full on Tri were throughly beaten. We had 21 runners sub 20 and 11 sub 19. Quickest went 15:57! And won overall.

I was at Mum’s, so agreed to meet my mate from Glastonbury at Street Parkrun. It’s a slow course with a lot of turns.
He had his son with him so the brief was ‘nice and easy’ which we definitely nailed at 27.13

Well done for getting sub 19. A good friend was doing her 500th today at Bushy so we did a last minute dash up to see her. Ran with her in a little group at around 35 minutes or so, it was lovely. Turned out to be my 250th run at bushy today as well.

We had to dash off soon after the run as we were out for lunch. Got home at 12:15 and then out the door less than 10 minutes later. :+1:

Next time we head to bushy I’ll give you some advance notice!

She got a shout out at the start didn’t she?

You’re way past 500 aren’t you?

ETA - you made the Bushy insta story

Yes, it was my 694th parkrun but 250th at Bushy. Since moving away in 2014 it has taken me over 10 years to get from 240 to 250 at Bushy.

Steady effort at the local run today, might have had a few pints last night but was still home by 9, total lightweight but everyone else had gone as well.

Was surprised how dry it was and mostly dodged the incoming wind.

Finished in something like 22:35

Will get to one on Christmas Day but decide on the morning.
