Parkrun

I did the Christmas day race today, took it fairly steady to begin with to see how I was feeling after a couple of days off with the lurgy and picked up the last 2K. Finished in 21:28 but I always measure that course as >100m long!

Felt Ok in the last K although my throat is still a bit sore. Fingers crossed I’ve seen the worst of it.

My local Wepre course for me this morning.

Normally things stretch out & I end up running my own race but had a great battle today with a couple of other lads. I was outsprinted in the end by one of them but was really chuffed to be competitive.

Time down on my average by about a minute & my lungs are still papery but all in the right direction :white_check_mark:.

Might pop along again tomorrow.

Finally got a run at Torbay PR after cancellation last weekend. It’s fast in the winter because they stick to the velopark for all but the final out and back stretch. Manic start, pack of 12 pulled away but it split up after the first lap and I started to pick off the stragglers - and I did a 5:40 1st mile!

Two guys came jogging past at the end of the 2nd lap, and proceeded to run through and then off the front. 2nd mile 5:44 and only a couple of the original front pack are still ahead. On to the out and back through the mud and puddles, miss out in the sprint for 3rd, and missed out on sub-18, although most measured it 100m long and without that it would have been 17:5x.

Shows the benefit of a flat, tarmac track over gravel/grass and hills.

Should’ve popped over the river to Exmouth! That’s a solid run though.

Windy though, not sure I would have fancied 2.5k into a headwind.

I was bloody late today - as I approached the start the horde was well up the road, decided to just jog round and save my legs for a blast tomorrow!

Notched up Parkrun number 60 today - can I crack 100 in 2023?

Be more impressed if you got to the start on time :joy:

Are the age categories at birthday or year of birth in parkrun?

I’m pretty certain they update on your birthday.

It’s lovely blue sky here but not sure how long it will last. I’ve promised myself a relaxed day of reading ‘Practical Sportsbikes’

Was a lovely morning at Bushy. The beers and late night caught up with me around 3km in and I came home scraping 20 minutes or so. Glad I made the effort to get out though, enjoyed that.

Well I have managed the dubious honour of running a PW on two consecutive days :man_facepalming:.

Despite full well knowing the forecast I
got absolutely soaked & chilled to the bone running over. Needed heavier base, coat, gloves & hat really.

Conditions were probably as bad as they allow the run to go ahead in, very slippery in parts & you were running upstream on the climbs.

Thought I was running well but HR was a full 10 beats down on my usual effort so the message was clearly not getting through to the engine room.

I’m going to wipe this result from my memory, blame being chilled, the conditions & heavy legs from yesterday & move the fuck on for the rest of '23.

Got up and opened your ‘23’ account though :facepunch:t2:

Some heavy Zwifting races and a drive from UK to Switzerland on Thursday, Saturday PR was a struggle, managed a labored 20:10. NYE party, lots of fizzy stuff, bed at 3am then up at 8 for New Years Day PR, did 7.5k because we decided to go a bit long. Started at 5:10m/km and got 10s faster with each KM, so ended up at 3:50/km. Strangely felt really nice

Someone finished first at a local parkrun in 21:00 today, I’m guessing everyone stayed in bed as I’ve seen an odd sub15 on that course. I think second was 22:xx

It’s the one I normally do as well :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Anyway, I did 20:25ish on a windy day. Smaller turnout than usual.

Regional XC Champs around here today, so rhe pointy end wasn’t as pointy as usual.

First time volunteering for me today. I’ve done 13, with 7 at my local. How often do you guys volunteer, every 5th, 10th, 20th, fuck em?

Embarrassingly never volunteered - I’ve slung some cash their way through wristbands and t-shirts etc. obviously not in the spirit of it though

ETA - I’m not a complete prick though! I’ve been volunteering at bike races for the last ten years

Is that the Surrey League press gang, where all the member clubs have to host events and provide the volunteers?
