Parkrun

Went to a smaller parkrun in Copenhagen for a steady run, quite a pleasant park with a nice lake. Quite a few tourists because of the race, in particular from the UK.

Managed to bite my lip and took it pretty easy, but had a bit of an effort with 500m to go. Was about 24 flat. Still felt a bit harder than the time suggests so not sure if it’s from lugging suitcases about yesterday or whatever was causing me problems at the start of the week. See what happens tomorrow.

Shame I didn’t have my wetsuit.

It’s easing up for sure mate . A lot less nerve pain but still more achey and sore than before.

It feels like I could run a bit but I haven’t seen the specialist yet. The strange thing is that the NHS physio was convinced it was not muscular and probably needs surgical intervention.
However, time does seem to be easing it, which would suggest to me maybe it is muscular?

I don’t know. I do know that when I’ve had the crippling nerve pain spasms before, they never went away on their own.

Thames Turbo took over pacer duties this week at Bushy. Every minute from 19 to 35 had a pacer - great fun, apparently we asked for an 18 but they didn’t have a bib.

I was 26 and came in at 25:56 - awaiting ‘official’ time

Super fun

(Our 20 minute pacer came in at 19:34 :flushed_face:)

That’s impressive, sometimes Burnham will have every minute. Winchester only has pacers once a month and they alternate odds and evens on 2mins.

I was in your shoes in 2010
Went for the op and they sent me home …
Best thing I never did.

Glad it’s easing, bit by bit, my condition took months to mend ( obvious overtraining) naproxen and hanging stretch seemed to make the most difference

Hope it gets sorted .. I can’t run either it’s crap I know

My Achilles is a bit too grumbly for today, so did a bit of marshalling in the shade. A beautiful morning by the Thames.

Nice, I’ve done it a couple of times. A few of the local ones do them on the last Saturday, the bigger one usually gets from 20-30 and a few others.

Nothing for me today because of the cycling but a lad I know did his 700th  first one in 2008 apparently!

A new race started fairly locally yesterday and just up the coast, got nearly 350 people! Doubt it will get that many going forward.

Sadly for all the alphabet chasers they decided to name it heritage coast rather than Easington or something as there isn’t many E’s, our nearest is Sheffield or Edinburgh.

Eastleigh was my first Parkrun back in 2010!

Erm, one of those begins with S, or is just that all Yorkshire places are “Ee Ba Gum 'tis Sheffield” or something?

I was planning on walking around again but that nasty cough I had a couple of weeks has re-surfaced (it never really went). Just feels like I’ll be putting myself even further behind.

A guy from our club did his 750th today, decent landmark but I think he did the first one at our local event, might actually have helped to organise it.

I was planning testing a gentle run/walk at Burnham but the warm up didn’t feel great. Walked the first 4km and shuffled the final km for a 36.57

LO ran at Winchester for a 23.17

I did an 800m race in the vets league last night (will add details at the bottom), which completely destroyed me, so took it “easy” today with the buggy.

Slightly concerning to hear the megaphone at 8:55 as we were walking up the hill, but fortunately got there in plenty of time.

There is a hot air balloon festival on the park which started yesterday, so down the first straight there were vehicles parked on the grass either side, and there was an interesting aroma from various fires.

Needless to say despite trying to take it easy, it didn’t feel particularly slow and I was drenched in sweat and had it running into my eyes, despite a pleasant cooling drizzle, for 23:19.

800m race was only my second of the season. Last one was a disappointing 2:23, so was hopeful of a fair bit better but not near my PB (2:12).

Went off hard from the gun and found myself in 4th on the shoulder of 3rd, and moved into 3rd after the first bend (though technically 2nd as it was A and B from the same team ahead). Kind of recognised one of the guys just ahead and knew I was probably going too hard as he could do a mid 2:0x.

Was still close behind at the bell, a glance at the watch showed 64s, and had mixed emotions, worried about a capitulation and excited that a very unlikely PB was on. Just about held it together to 600m at which point 1st and 2nd pulled away easily (I think the B string took the win), just about held it together round the bend, but at the start of the final 100m knew I was in trouble. I had nothing and felt like I was barely at a walking pace. Fortunately only 1 person overtook me.

Watch has 2:16, so not too bad, I’d have taken that at the start. But by god it destroyed me, not sure I’ve ever felt so bad after a race.

That 800 sounds rancid :face_vomiting::joy:

Back on the tourist trail today heading north up the A1 to the outskirts of Newcastle and Denton Dene for me today. Tough little course on narrow paths so good job there was just over 100 people but everyone was generally good and stayed right.

Top guy was well clear, was just about finishing when I went through 4K. Another tough day for me, probably not helped myself the last few days but the legs have been struggling this week.

Anyway, got round in 21:20 which was good enough for 10th, albeit it about 100m short. So another in the NE ticked off, although there was another new one a fortnight ago.

Mostly went up there as the GF wanted to go to an art gallery near the city centre to see a few Jim Moir paintings in a small exhibition. He’s clearly a good painter but some of them were a bit odd, there was one of New Order and if any of the band have seen it I’m surprised they haven’t asked him to burn as it makes them look terrible :joy:
