The trouble with cleats on a tandem is that you both need to pedal off together, the cranks are mechanically linked, you can’t both pause and faff around trying to clip the trailing leg in or you risk stalling and falling off.
Well maybe better riders could but we decided not to risk it ![]()
Mrs FT was talking to a friend and said “it’s great, I never realised how easy tandemming is. We rode across the whole island without breaking a sweat.”
I said nothing, but promise you I broke a sweat ![]()
It’s a great leveller though, allows both riders to put in as much as they feel like & still get there at the same time.

Ended up doing the local parkrun this morning, it was pacer day so ended up doing 25 minute.
Was about on schedule with 1K to go and only had one lad following me, although I was half thinking he might need a defib the way he was panting ![]()
Was a bit quicker in the last K and let him go for a sprint finish with 300m to go.
Time was about 24:40 so not bad.
Run Number 196 I think ![]()
I ran past a 90yo today but an 80yo sprinted past me at the finish. ![]()
One of the V70’s from our club ran 20:30 and thought the first 3k wasn’t fast enough!
It was pacer week and my legs felt tired, but as soon and the run starts I get carried away. This was my view for just under 20 mins.
Photo was at 1k when there were about 10 of us in a group. About five of us at the end.
18:36 at my local, fastest since returning to the UK. Hoped for a bit more progress but it’s a fair reflective best effort.
Can maybe find 37 seconds straight away from course and shoes, but the remaining 90s probably need going back in a time machine.
Not the quickest course that one but a good time. Get yourself to Albert, still one of the quickest and usually fast runners to hang onto.
My mate ran a 17:27 for his 200 th park run
That is a crazy amount ?!
He loves it
Pfft, thats only 4 years worth ![]()
For many it becomes part of the weekly routine, so they soon rack up if thats the case.
Taken me nearly 15 years to get to 197
but picked up the pace since 2019 then missed a year obvs!
Also volunteered about 35 times but a couple were course check and ran as well. Probably very few people have volunteered and ran different courses on the same day!
Anyway, back on the tourist trail today for venue 69
stopped off at Endcliffe park in Sheffield on the way to collecting the new car.
Big event with nearly 700 people on small paths so was busy at the start. Nice little course though with about 40% on trail but bone dry and a few drags so not particularly quick.
Lined up near the front to avoid any traffic and bottlenecks and although it didn’t feel flat out it was certainly a hard effort, especially after Zwift last night
wrist HR failed miserably for the first 3K though ![]()
Official time is 21:21 and 45th so reasonably pleased with that.
It’s an addiction !
My partner for hyrox doubles next Sunday was genuinely horrified when I suggested he give next Saturday “ a miss” ready for the race?!
He does every Saturday without fail
He’s faster than me anyway so maybe he should there great events ( parkrun ) in all fairness
Having had a couple of disruptive nights after the arrival of #4, decided a slightly easier effort was on the cards, so tried to get a Groundhog Day and repeat the 22:10 from last week (where I started a bit late and it felt anything but easy).
Went out a bit quick with a 4:08 followed by a 4:14 and failed to slow enough despite almost walking over the line for a 22:06.
Introduced #4 to people and spent a small fortune in the cafe on a couple of jacket potatoes, what else would the kids have for breakfast ![]()

I imagine that will get the cultists frothing & booking up their long haul flights for a shit, crowded fun run.
They’ll find a way to fuck it up…
