My achilles has been a bit painful for the last week or so. But I’ve been running well (sub 20 last week). Today I took it a bit easier but was still around 20 minute pace. About 500m or so from the end my calf/achiles got really tight and I was forced to stop and then walk. Just over 25 minutes for me in the end. I then walked the mile or so back home.
21 years today since it all started ![]()
First parkrun for 4 weeks today, just went to the local course as there is a bit of shelter from the wind in places but the ground is getting softer now with a couple of puddles so just used the trail shoes.
A few local ones had been cancelled so possibly helped numbers with a few more in the 19-21 minute range.
Started off fairly steady at about 4:30 pace then picked it up a bit at halfway, and averaged about 4M/K for the last 2K pace which also took me past a few people and into 16th!
Finished about 21:48 which was actually pleasing given it was a bit softer, windy and a pretty steady first 3k, it’s only about 35 seconds off my best on that course.
Probably do a bit of tourism the next couple of weekends as I’m away for both of them.
They snuck me in the results when I said not to!
The finishers token didn’t scan it was so knackered and scraped off, so I just said no bother I’ll leave it - but I still appeared, they must’ve looked me up or something…
They would have scanned your code first, so i guess it was just the position they would need to add in afterwards?
I think having the buggy might have worked to my advantage (at points) today, when it got really windy on the second lap i hunched right over the handles, getting more aero and actually seemed to speed up compared to those around me.
Yep, but I didn’t think the app stored the scanned numbers unless they do the match, maybe it does though
Woke up in Somerset so Taunton parkrun again this morning, 20m55, started slow to protect calf but just couldn’t get going and slowed down further throughout. Bit breezy and squelchy but no excuse, was well down the field compared to 2 weeks ago. Just one of those days ![]()
Then drove back to Dorset & immediately Junior #1 bullied me into a 7km off roader, still in wet park run kit. At least the sun had come out by then though.
Good news though… calf feeling ok.
Went along to the new junior parkrun today, which is 3 loops on a (mostly) flat tarmac course. Only #1 did it (#2 had a football game). He set off like an absolute rocket and was in the top 3 after 100m, which was completely unsustainable, but thankfully he didn’t completely die and managed to maintain a good pace once he settled down.
Finished in 7th place (admittedly a smaller field than the other event) in 10:01, taking about 50s off his junior parkrun PB. 65% age grading which was 4th best.
As a spectator was quite nice to be able to see them for the whole event and cheer them on a few times. Also the mobile coffee van was right next to the path.
He’s eager to make a return for a sub-10 attempt, but it might be a while before another Sunday morning without a football game comes up.
I thought the reason the parish council were pushing for it was so more people would use the cafe in the hub building? I even heard talk they were gonna withdraw sevenfields permission so they’d move there although not sure how you’d get 5km unless you used the cyclocross circuit which might be an interesting parkrun.
Just realised there’s the parkrun in bristol on the CX course https://www.parkrun.org.uk/somerdalepavilion/course/ always wondered how the pictured part is to run.
The event at Moredon hasn’t started yet, think its at much earlier stages of planning.
This was the (town centerish) GWR Park one.
Oh, I didn’t even know there was another one in town! thought Moredon had happened quickly. Not sure 3 junior parkruns is really necessary in Swindon.
I think they’re trying to spread them around as much as possible to make them easily accessible without a car to encourage participation.
I do think the average attendance will be pretty low once all 3 are running.
Somerdale PR is great fun, not just the Curly Wurly portion, which you do 3 times. Although I can imagine it’s a bit heavy going in the winter.

I’ve done a PR based around a cyclo park in Torbay. Nominally they do 2 laps of the track and then run out around the sports pitches, but in the winter it’s often all on the track, which is plenty wide enough and very fast and flat.
I wondered whether they’d use the bike track, but given they normally charge quite a lot to use that it seems unlikely. But any other course is going to be “interesting “ over the winter months.
The Swindon Harriers are hosting an XC race (running) there this season.
The reason Torbay was designed as 2 laps is they wanted it to be open for bikes by 10am.
Back on the tourist trail today with a trip to Goole! 2.5 laps round a park and mostly on grass or track but still dry underfoot, with the hum from the M62 in the background ![]()
I knew I had to keep it steady with the leg and was heading round at about 4:50K pace. It was slightly short though and I finished in 24:03, another second and I’d have had one of my missing times on the clock challenge ![]()
Closer to home there was a new one today just outside Durham at an old mansion and country park, with a rare letter U, nearly 650 people turned up ![]()
Crewe for me today
3 rd “ hard “ run in 5 days.

Top15.. I think ? Try again next week, hopefully a touch faster
3rd M50 at Taunton today, 2nd was just 1 place in front so he’s a marked man now. ![]()
We were quite late getting there today, so didn’t have really have a warm up, although I don’t think it was the main factor.
I had another session where I just couldn’t catch my breath, so shuffled the first 3.5km and walked the rest for a 32:12.
I am slowly getting some consistency back though and the treadmill is making a more regular appearance when I’m at the office.
LO ran a 23:45 and Mrs FP somewhere in the middle. Official times aren’t out yet.
20:44 fastest time this year
2 nd 55-60
