Record numbers in wazza today. Carnage over the finish line but if anyone got arsey, they’re the idiots. A good laugh.
Are Christmas Day numbers so high because only half the parkruns are on, or is turnout genuinely higher than most Saturdays?
I think in our case as much because the other parkrun barely 3K away wasn’t on and that would normally get about 300. But I do think there’s people that get up to go and get some fresh air before stuffing their faces all day ![]()
There’s likely to be a few more on NYD and they’ll be bracing themselves for a big turnout, I might help at my usual one.
Street is the only Xmas Day one in is these parts for miles.
However, Winchester also pulls big numbers on Christmas Day and most of the other surrounding ones are also on.![]()
Email from Parkrun said 766 at ours today
The irishman I’m married to got the joke but also didn’t believe it’s real. The attendance record numbers for parkrun yesterday included this. It made me chuckle.
Another freezing parkrun ticked off today. Took it relatively easy because of how icy it was. Thought top 10 was possible but came in 12th.
Volunteered today, I reckon that one volunteering per 10 runs is probably fair. Not as much as many but more than some.
Baltic, there was plenty of star jumps & clapping reqd.
1 in 10 is excellent in my books. I got a volunteer credit today as after I’d finished the run I heard the run director ask if anyone could scan a few barcodes as it was getting really busy. I had my phone on me and knew what to do so spent about 20 minutes scanning.
No parkrun for me today, couldn’t negotiate it.
My yearly stats says 30 runs and 13 volunteers. But a couple were doubles like pacing or course check, also had the rare double when I volunteered and raced at different events on the same day!
Volunteer credits were boosted by the recent injury when I helped out to stop me staying in bed until 10am those weekends ![]()
Going to be a cold one in the morning (HNY for that by the way), our local parkrun is not on, but there is a fairly local one on a Prime and it’s been a while since I’ve chased those…
I offered to marshal, it’s 2c
and I’m sat in the car with the heated seat on
( sorry Greta!)
I was still running while @BadAsh had finished, gone home, got changed and was walking back to the cafe…
Got a bit carried away, just before 1km saw the 20 pacer and decided to stick with and then overtake him. At 3km I was paying the price, didn’t really think I could keep it up and didn’t fancy dying trying to, so backed off.
Very nice running conditions, dry and not too cold.
Was told that the cafe in the park didn’t open last year, but thankfully it did this year (opens at 9:30, so usually a slight wait to get in).
I managed 47 runs in total last year, who knows what it’ll be this year, all depends on the clubs/activities the kids have on.
Well you do do a 5km+ warm down!
I actually left the cafe as soon as it opened as I had trapped wind*. Was in great discomfort until a few large burps by the lake sorted me out, but carried on home to have a tablet anyway.
* At least thats what I think it is. Used to get it very occasionally in the night when I think I’d eaten a lot/quite late/rich food (actually I first recall it happening this time of year about 20 years ago). I’ve had it happen after about 3 parkruns this year, going to have to start taking tablets with me!
It was deceptively warm but a biting wind. So I’ll add “overdressed” to my list of excuses. Got to start somewhere, and if nothing else I’ve been consistently slow across all the festive parkruns. All my runs within 40 seconds of each other.
I wasn’t bad where I was standing, it’s well inside the route and has quite a lot of tree cover as well as the old sidings from when it was a branch line, just my hands a bit cold a usual. The people at the start\finish were a bit different as there’s less cover and the wind was coming straight from the NW, and the cafe\building were closed.
One of the local ones had to cancel at 8:35 due to ice, apparently it was fine around 7am but temps had been plummeting and the start\finish is a bit lower next to the lake and that smooth tarmac which freezes easily. It can be dangerous on that part of the course. Luckily the one about 3k away went ahead for people to go elsewhere.
Absolutely freezing at Winchester but a lovely day for running. I was in no shape after the plumbing disaster yesterday, my back was in bits. We took LO though and she turned in a 24.21.
She has plateaued a bit, it was Jan 2025 when she turned in her 22.03 PB. She says she wants to get to 21.30 this year and I’m not sure how to help. She’s definitely lost a bit of the ‘mongrel’ but still has a blistering kick and sprint at the end. She seems to settle on a pace earlier than she used to.
Lots of changes going on with her, so I don’t push anything, she’s the one that says she wants to improve. She has the endurance and fitness but I’m not sure she’s as hungry as she was.
It may pass, it may not. I couldn’t be any prouder of her anyway ![]()
Looking at the results I see a (relatively new) YouTuber, Max Kelly, won. Doesn’t look like he had much competition, so not sure it’ll be the most entertaining watch (if he recorded and releases it).
