I’ve got Friday to get. 2006 at Bushy must have been a much smaller event ![]()
The ladies parkrun record was set on NYD at Bongo’s local event, Exmouth. 15:27! Two others with sub-16 as well.
Technically only the fastest parkrun by a British lady, an Irish one had run quicker.
Was it Innes?
She won the worlds u20 xc or something again a few weeks ago. Local young lady studying at Exeter uni now.
And coached by Jo Pavey I believe.
Apparently women’s course record went at Sharpham Estate down the road too. Must be something in the water.
Yeah, that was her. The headline implied the fastest outright so a bit misleading, think I remember the Irish lady. She was about Uni age, must have been on the beetroot juice!
Reckon there might have to be a fair few cancellations tomorrow. Icy out there.
I hope not, yesterday I realised there was a(n entirely meaningless) challenge to complete at an event number equal to your own total number if runs when checking which events I could do, there was just a single UK event, which just happens to be my 3rd closest.
However, I’m in Brighton this weekend, so will have to try and do it next weekend.
Ahhh, 2006….. those were the days.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but my first event in June 2006 had 159 finishers. Before we started there was an announcement that Australian runner Craig Mottram was there. He ran 14:00 and was nearly three minutes ahead of second place. His record stood I think for a number of years.
Our two most local events have warned of possible cancellations. My “home” event put a message out saying that it’s not just the runners safety - we have a number of elderly marshalls and having them stand for up to 90 minutes in the cold is not a good thing.
It turned out the 2 closest events in Brighton had cancel yesterday, but one of the 5 (East Brighton) had confirmed yesterday that it would almost definitely be on (its all on grass), which is the only one I hadn’t done. Its also the furthest away, but only 5km.
It was a very pleasant run over, no issues anywhere… and that was in Vaporflys (I’d not really checked the forecast when I packed).
Course description sounded really complicated, but in reality it was pretty straightforward, and I had plenty of people to follow anyway. Heavy frost on the grass making it firm under foot, and no issues with my choice of footware.
Official results already in, 20:51.
The run back wasn’t quite so pleasant, as I’ve not run that far in a long time, and it finished with a big hill.
East Brighton is one of my locals (just under 10k along the coast) but I haven’t done it for a long time.
It’s a nice course though and would be good for a traditional XC race.
I’m still in bed! Been struck down with this sore throat/coughing thing. ![]()
Mrs FP took LO to Parkrun and she went harder today with a 22.52 ![]()
I decided to stay local, I was collecting recycling that had blown about at 8:15 and the binnies were ignoring
and didn’t fancy an open course by the North Sea with the wind.
It started snowing just as it began, not particularly heavy and kept going until the end. The course was bone hard and frozen though, it was sloppy on top on NYD, but good for running on.
I was putting a bit of effort in to get warm but it was hard work in the cold air and still getting over various things.
Finished in 22:40 which was faster than planned and it was a decent turnout of over 200.
On my way back I was confronted with some idiot riding recklessly between the runners with a dog tied to his bars on a long lead, despite all the runners he was just ploughing through them. I’d only noticed him at the last minute and didn’t get chance to call him out. Not long after I’m guessing his wife was doing something similar but not as quickly. I get that it’s a shared path but this was utterly dangerous for him and others, also it’s clearly marked that cyclists must give way to pedestrians and horses etc., it was only about 700m from the turnaround so he didn’t have long to wait. What an utter walnut.
Turns out I completely missed one of my sisters as well as a few other people ![]()
Our closest (my regular) cancelled at about 7:40am and I waited for the second closest one (Littlehampton Prom) to do a course check but got ready in the meantime. About 8:15 they said it was on so I headed off in MrsF’s car. Got there just after 8:35 so all good.
It’s a straight two lap out and back route and I went out too fast - which I always seem to do here. Got myself in a group of four and we thankfully stuck close together as there was a bit of a headwind one way. Hung on for dear life and managed 20:06 which is my best time in months.
I managed my fastest time all year, amazingly just 2 days after managing my fastest time all year! A rich vein of form I must be in.
A few local events have already cancelled for tomorrow with others having further checks tonight and early tomorrow.
More a question of ice forming on the rain/slush!
Edit: pretty much all wiped out locally after overnight snow and ice forming. Might be one or two but they’ll be mobbed!
I decided after looking at at 4am ![]()

Had the very best intentions of Parkrunning this morning but that first week back at work has hit hard & I missed my wake window.
One more failure of my normally iron discipline ![]()
I decided to have one more weekend off to get this cough gone. ![]()
LO has gone to a WADAC hill session. She has the Hampshire Schools XC on Monday.
