PEDs

Why would the Slovenian GOAT be so much better than everyone else though? It seems unlikely to me that that a single rider has a unique access to something so performance enhancing for so long.

Mark Twain even had a view on this: history doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes.

Can I interest anyone a a new watch whilst I’m at it.

It’s the seismic skeletons that drives everyone. And it’s all relative. Each seen through their own lense.

I’m tired of “the Bradley wiggins story”. I personally witnessed his last family lunch in rural Lancashire as he spent more time queueing for pints than talking to his wife and daughter. He needs to acknowledge the past, close the chapter, and move on. It’s now starting to look like a desperate attempt to stay relevant in world that moves too fast.

The Brailsford/british cycling affair will emerge from the first person willing to break an NDA, as per Lance’s sorry tale of woe. And it will repeat again in 20 years or so for UAE.

I recon its gone, unlike the American Ego he didn’t annoy everyone by making a comeback and think they haven’t pissed enough people off in the mens peloton for whistles to be blown like Lance and his hangers on. When the Jess Varnish issue surfaced, VP’s well documented problems with BC and Nicole Cooke then released her book, none of them opened up, maybe worried about protecting their own legacies, maybe scared of repercussions but all are long retired and still quiet on doping. Maybe Brad and Dave, are well liked behind the scenes or maybe everyone internally is tarnished.

tl;dr that ship has sailed

Most likely. You’re right, it was LA’s “comeback” and greed that was his downfall.

The federal case was what ultimately sunk Lance - the threat of jail time for his teammates if they didn’t spill the beans

There was federal money involved in funding US Postal, so I guess the FBI getting involved upped the ante. Perhaps the other teams we mentioned have enough private money to keep people quiet; plus yes the more successful riders will want to protect their own legacy.

Landis had nothing to lose by exposing the den of thieves, indeed he felt screwed-over. So as long as the UK & Emirates Postal ‘royalty’ don’t pi55 off someone lower down their food chain, I guess it may stay under the carpet.

Didn’t Floyd actually get a big pay-out from exposing USP?

I think there’s some time where he got a % of the fine or the funds repaid? :man_shrugging:

He’s now a cannabis millionaire living in Leadville. Helped by his net $1.1 mln from Lance.

Landis, who filed the original lawsuit in 2010, which the government then joined, is considered a whistleblower for revealing the doping that Armstrong and others did and received $1.1 million of that settlement and another $1.65 million to cover his legal fees.

I just look at the veiny arms and think I have never seen a clean athlete in any sport who has that, but the druggies always do.

A 15 stone man that can run a sub 3 hilly marathon .. of course he is natural.. with hyrox “ very slow” to introduce testing for the elite 15 races we don’t know 100%.

I’ve met him .. he’s a monster. Just a big big guy.

Nice fella but most pro athletes are. It hasn’t gone unnoticed that after winning every race for nearly two years 8/9 in total in the 2024? world champs were they introduced drug testing for the top 5.. he was 6th?!

Coincidences ?

The best I can do is 4 weeks ago in Pattaya

If I’m on gear I want a refund

He got a gig on Talksport for a few weeks and despite the presenters best efforts to engage him in conversation he was just rude and arrogant and came across as “I don’t want to be here, just give me the money”

Not sure how long it was meant to last but they binned it off after a few weeks, it was really cringeworthy.

My stepson works at an events venue and there was a Q&A evening with him a little while ago. He turned up late and cut the evening short. No explanation, no apology.

He’s behaving like this country owes him something because he went through all of that “for us”. Err nope.

I think Wiggins and Cav are due to be on Dermot O’Leary’s Radio 2 show on Saturday morning.

I assume they’re on to promote something, but I don’t know what. Is the London 6 day (or however many days it’s running for this time) coming up soon?

What do you think Wiggo will be like at 9am on a Saturday?

Cav is due to be on the same show by himself a couple of weeks later to promote a book, so this appearance obviously isn’t about that :man_shrugging:

I was never really a Cav fan during most of his either tbh; I found him pretty sulky & petulent. I think he mellowed with age.

I liked Cav, at least he had some personality, and along with G two of the cyclists I would be shocked if something ever came out, Cav especially because his numbers, relatively, were shit and he was told multiple times he’d never make it, but found a way by being erratic, fearless, more aero, having the “double kick” and also just having a knack to find a wheel

That

We used to ask exactly the same question about Armstrong. He just responded better to the gear than his peers
