I do hope they have told hyrox ..?!

Some blatant blatant doping going on there but thankfully only a small% of idiots

Most far too muscular to get near a podium

But not all …

Hyrox isn’t a WADA sport. I think we had this a while ago. Hyrox can talk the talk with a bit of ant-doping theatre, but unless they sign up to WADA there’s no reason why WADA should contact them.

People openly talking “ it’s ok to take peds at hyrox, there is no drug testing ?!”

Hyrox would disagree but with zero testing for age groupers .. it’s pretty blatant but thankfully quite rare .. most people don’t care enough to cheat.

That is sad .. AF

Joking aside and answering my own question it seems to be that she tested clean a few weeks before and a few weeks after. So they were looking for an explanation that fit that.

Seems a bit shaky, but there’s no certainty in this world and this is the best verification we can think of. Hope it all works out from this point.

Which is why we have strict liability. Punishment is reduced if they think it was accidental ingestion, but you are still guilty.

But as usual with WADA they seem to make it up as they go along.

Hmm, echo the second comment really about being a non-responder! Think I’d be a bit miffed if she got my spot having acknowledged using them in the past.

…So a female bodybuilder came third of four in her age group in Malaysia and got a Kona spot.

I like the post that she’s actually more famous than the IMWCs.

Q: What is “the yellow sewer”?

Everytime I see this thread is in the category “gear” it makes me chuckle

Was wondering this last night - if I’m rubbing testosterone (actually called topical corticosteroid I think) cream into the skin of an eczema sufferer, is that enough to wipe out my huge collection of trophies this year?

Hydrocortisone/Corticosteroids and testosterone are very different things. Nice try but you need a new excuse for how T got in your system and your massive gainz

Over the years I have taken a lot from this guy’s blog about certain ways of living.

To my surprise it seems he has recently started taking testosterone supplements. Not the sort of stuff he normally writes about.

My knee jerk reaction was disappointment, but I have to admit to feeling a bit challenged about exactly why I feel like that

He’s not a competitive athlete or anything. Basically he is saying he felt tired and old, more than he expected for a man of about 50, so he started taking testosterone and now he feels better.

It’s an interesting bit of writing, coming from someone who seems intelligent and usually quite rational and balanced, and who’s writing I usually enjoy and respect.

Guess I have been fortunate never to have the sort of fatigue and loss of vigour he talks about, but it did challenge my knee-jerk reaction a little bit - which is “just say no” and that men who take testosterone are sneaky low rent drug cheats looking for a short cut to Kona :joy:.

Not something I’d ever anticipate doing personally, but it has made me reconsider my slightly judgey attitude towards people who do. Especially if they are not just cynically trying to win the local sprint tri.

(edit: PS here is a more typical blog post of his, which is the reason I like to read his stuff: https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2024/07/23/656000-of-frugal-things-i-still-love-doing/ )

I know 3? People with similar attitudes towards TRT. They take it

There are thousands more… the three I know don’t even know what “ Kona “ is.

One is a weightlifter the other two don’t even go to the gym, I suspect there are several more but don’t admit it. It is more common .. ish .. among top hyrox age groupers but not the numbers some people produce.

“ Every guy over 55 should be on TRT” is something i have heard time and again on social media and in person with still doing tri and hyrox last year I would feel like a cheat if I took anything, plus I don’t really have any of the symptoms that people use to “justify “ mild steroid use.

If I needed it in the future .. I probably still wouldn’t as like you and several others on here I’m hard wired into thinking “ it’s cheating “

If ever couldn’t perform sexually .. at all.. I 100% would.

I guess we mostly see it as cheating or possibly a vanity project to bulk up.

But if you have a genuine low level and aren’t gaining an advantage in the local parkrun or other race then I’m less bothered, but guess it can have long term implications.

Not completely convinced about the improving quality of life as that sounds like other issues but appreciate feeling better about things can have wider impacts.

My dad ( a lifelong non athlete ) took it

In tiny doses to help with his breathing condition at 78 years old, he said it was “ amazing “ and could “ really tell” when he was on and off it, he genuinely needed it. He stopped when his heart condition was diagnosed .. he’s not an idiot

He says he misses his little boost, and is not as active but his breathing is better now at 80 he feels the little tablets “ helped “ with this,

50 year olds ( and much younger ) full of muscle benching 200 kgs on TRT.. I’m not so sure about.

Don’t crucify me, but when I get to 55 if I’m suffering from tiredness, lack of vigour and test low then I’m open to investigating a minimum effective dose of T. That’s 10 years away so hopefully by then the bro-science/bro-fashion period we’re in will have passed by and there’ll be better understanding of the long term implications (increased cancer risk etc).

I won’t be troubling any podiums anyway. That would require actually training and entering races which I can’t be arsed with currently. Maybe I’m already low on T .

It feels like I don’t feel the stigma quite so acutely that many folks do on here. If like Mr MM you’re not taking T to cheat at races or get swole, but purely for quality of life purposes, then have at it I reckon. MMM is divorced and dating so he probably wants to be jacked to entertain younger women I suspect .

To surmise I’m keeping an open mind…

What if any are the longer term implications of TRT? Long term use of anti-depressants is anecdotally very difficult to reduce, is this the same i.e. is coming off it a cliff edge?

That’s like advocating for everyone who’s unhappy should be chugging anti-depressants. Slippery slope.

My understanding is that as soon as you start taking testosterone your body shuts down it’s own production so when you come off you effectively have zero until your body starts making it again (if it does)

Bodybuilders talk about PCT (Post Cycle Therapy) which are a different set of drugs after a steroid cycle to encourage your body back to normal production over a period of time.
