PEDs

I’ve used them, and not found anything of note… but for me good thing to know was that there was nothing of note, I had to remind myself that that is a good outcome and (in my case) my lack of performance/weight gain etc. was not down to a physical issue.

It did flag high Uric Acid, which I really must keep an eye on. It’s a marker for possible Gout; both my Dad and Paternal Grandfather suffer(ed) with it, so it’s not surprising. Also gives some idea of why if I’ve done several days where I’m probably a bit dehydrated for an extended period (e.g. hiking and ski touring trips) I end up with really achey big toe joints.

Fitness and weight wise I’m in fairly decent shape by most peoples standards. Some gains and improvements (strength and running fitness) have plateaued a bit the last year, but I’m probably being a bit overly critical and the stress of the last 12 months won’t have helped that. So I am very curious on the cortisol and T levels especially, and the ratio of those. It will also give me a marker against any future tests to see which way things are trending and by how much!

Jason Fox is promoting TRT on the Internet. He’s all over the endorsements.

I’m all for testing for getting that sort of data and then deciding what to do with it, even if the answer is nothing but sleep a little better.

Not convinced spot cortisol levels are hugely helpful though because they go up and down all the time. Unless they are basically zero, which I have seen in the wild just once ever, and in which case the person looked like death warmed up due to new onset of Addisons disease. Their potassium was also 8.2 if that means anything to anyone, not a good thing.

Result of the Addisons or just shot kidneys??

Addisons. Came straight back down within hours when they got pumped full of PEDs.

Slight aside but tuned in to a webinar about screening for genetic factors that give higher risk of autoimmune diseases like that.

Means that people can be prepared, they may still get the condition but it’s not such a surprise / an emergency presentation that can make them very sick indeed.

As far as I know we are not there yet outside of some niche settings, but in the next 10 years I think and hope insights like that from genome sequencing are going to become more of a normal thing

I did read the end of this and was wavering someone between it being a vanity project, pushing his mate’s startup company and a want to improve his life while he’s still relatively young to get the most out of it. And clearly less afraid of any long-term risks.

It sounded like he wasn’t particularly low to begin with but got some benefits, whether the dose would need to be increased longer term wasn’t obvious either.

It doesn’t sound like he competes so not really cheating to get some podium or win his local parkrun!

The last time I saw the other JeffB I was a bit surprised by his appearance but guessed he must have got a bullworker from his online tat shop :flexed_biceps::joy: I’ve seen a few other totally jacked people as well that are clearly using it.

I have ummed and ahhed over this thread when TRT comes up, but I feel its a safe space.

I have been on TRT for years. My levels were always low, at 17 I was tested and just scraped past the minimum level so wasn’t treated for years. Its quite well known in this regard the NHS treats numbers and not symptoms. I dont want to talk about the symptoms though.

In my 30s I pushed and was eventually referred to an endocrinologist. She went through my entire life history. Interestingly she surmised that my height probably came from low T. There isn’t a male in my family, current or gone, that pushed 6 foot and I’m 6’5". Apparently T is the signal to the body to stop growing. I wasn’t tall in Year 9/10, but I just carried on growing right up till I was about 21. I did have to have my knackers examined and she had a collection of wooden bollocks on a string she used to compare them against! Also had loads of other tests, a Cortisol test which involved a blood test, a nurse spearing my arse with a massive needle and another blood test, MRI on my piturity gland. No root cause was found.

So to tackle some myths.

No I didnt get hench, lose loads of fat, win my local TT or qualify for Kona. I saw really next to no sporting benefit from it at all. Of course Im not juicing, Im just getting my levels up from that of a little girl to a normal adult male. Possibly the only small benefit I have seen is if I stop going to the gym for a long while I retain muscle and strength a little bit more, but not much.

Did I compete in a triathlon or swimming event whilst on TRT? Yes. Was I anywhere near the front? No. Feel free to judge here, I dont think I did anything wrong, but opinions vary.

No my wedding tackle hasnt shrunk, well my Johnson is the same size, its a myth you get a tiny dick, my balls are smaller because the body stops producing its own T.

Side effects have been next to 0. One of my blood markers was slightly up once, indicating a thickening of the blood, this was dealt with by drawing some blood away. I have an annual PSA test despite being < 50 years old as it can cause prostrate issues, but so far none.

Has it improved things? Yes, a lot, not to a life changing amount but it has had an impact.

If you have low T, can sleep, pushing tin, cutting out liquice, eating more meat, all the IG influencer crap help? Not according to my endo. Maybe if you have normal T you can nudge the levels up a little, but if your body no worky properly in that regard there is basically nothing you can do but rub some artifical T on your skin daily.

Any other questions…shoot!

Nobody is going to have a problem with this.

The problem comes when people with normal test levels basically cheat and hide behind trt. Or in hyrox just cheat point blank

Must have took some bollix ( no pun intended ) to post that, I feel the same about this site, and this site only

Well done.

I want some of those wooden gonads on a string for the office now.

Could double up as a necklace or something to distract kids (Have a play with this Johnny while I listen to your Mum, and see if you can tell me what it is.)

Maybe a portable hollow/ opening version that stacks a bit like a Russian doll, although I guess that could potentially be awkward if you had work right down to the hazelnut.

I remember thinking some poor sod has had to make those. What have you got on the lathe today Fred. A lovely piece of beech. Oh what are you turning? A collection of testicles. OK…..

I was hoping she would have to crack out the Chuck Norris metal ones but alas no.

Appreciate you for sharing that.

Do/have you only ever used creams for application rather than injecting?

Yep, no problem with someone with a serious deficiency from a young age taking T.

The issue is with healthy people boosting their levels above their normal figures and older athletes boosting their T levels to counteract the natural aging process and gain an unfair advantage.

Even then it’s down to your androgen receptors and how you deal with a hormone. The numbers in themselves don’t mean much but used to reinforce or explain other symptoms.

I agree

If a 55 year old guy wants to take it but not compete in sports ?! A bit sad but it’s his life I guess, I think the next few years will prove just how widespread trt use is.

Legitimate cases like Ramsey and people who want to simply have more testosterone for, sexual, sporting and general life purposes

it’s rife in Thailand all Brits and people from other parts of the world.

As a life long non athlete my dad said he felt “ fantastic “ when taking a ridiculously small amount of what is actually a ped, he was 77 at the time.
