PEDs

Yes, it was Gatlin, was having brain fade

As you say I vaguely recall he seemed to have reasonable grounds of appeal but thought he got caught a second time for something else?

Second time was standard doping. I always felt he seemed to treated like some pantomime villain when he was no worse than the other dopers he was up against. I remember hom being booed in the UK but Yohan Blake cheered :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Half makes sense - amphetamines are used as ADHD meds and are banned in competition but allowed out of competition. But don’t know why the wouldn’t have just got a TUE.

As for the second one wasnt he the origin behind the testosterone gel sabotage theory that Sky were ordering the T to investigate? Gatlin claimed his physio was deliberately sabotaging him by rubbing testosterone onto him.

A totally normal sign to have in a shower room at the gym -

PureGym?

Yep, this is the one in Northallerton.

There aren’t as many bodybuilders here as there are in my usual gym on Brixton Road - it’s mainly scrawny teenagers

Bodybuilding becoming the biggest source of new blood bourne virus infections. Survey a few years back suggested 15% had shared needles with other users.

Wow, really?

Who doesn’t know that sharing needles is a bad idea?

Those who’ve grown up in world where HIV/AIDS is like any other disease and now curable. The same is happening with smoking and suntanning. Gen-Z have not physically seen people with the horrendous lung and skin cancers like we did so they don’t seem to believe what horrible diseases they are.

Same in the Puregym I’m at. Diabetes and GLP1 users? :joy:

Surely there isn’t much benefit to be taking your PEDs around your workout? Just do it at home, no?

That’s what I was thinking when Whisk posted that sharps poster; but maybe the needle sharing is the answer.

It’s a communal activity where they get the stuff and pass the needle round at the gym, what could possibly go wrong :scream:

Where are we putting ‘research chemicals’ aka peptides on the PEDs scale?

FYI I have zero interest in using them. Just curious what public opinion in here was

I’d probably put it on the same shelf as Russia’s ‘special military operation’

I think we can say with some confidence, that it’s likely he’s as clean as Indurain was. But they were nice guys…

LA only went down because he sh!t on too many people over his career.

TBH his biggest mistake was coming back.

Most of the public still thought he was great when he retired the first time.

If he’d stayed retired his legend would have lived on.

Didn’t he retire before the UCI signed up to WADA, then came back when they were, which gave them scope to investigate it all as a conspiracy? This is why none of the other riders, like Riis/Ullrich got results stripped because it was all pre-wada.

I’m not sure about that, but the investigation that ultimately got him was the federal whistleblower case brought by Landis over misappropriation of federal funds from US Postal.

As soon as the feds got involved, his former teammates didn’t have much choice about testifying :man_shrugging:
