Another question…
The new bike comes with a listed “Shimano pressfit BB72”. It seems like that standard isn’t covered anywhere online, from what I can see at least. Is it just a fancy name for BB86? The specs on here seem to suggest so:

So I can just swap an existing crank into this without any fuss (currently contained within an old 5700 series 105 hollowtech II BB)?

Bottom brackets really are the most complicated part of any bike as far as I’m concerned. Even thorough googling often leaves me confused!

Luddite :wink::rofl:
Threaded is the way forward.

Right I’ve had it. A guy looked at the BB and did some tinkering, it worked for approximately 1/2 a ride before it started up again. Now I’m going to change it to one of these screw in things. Frame is BB86 and crank is Shimano 24mm

Going to get one of these, trying to decide if it’s worth paying the difference for the Wheels ones or if I just won’t notice it once installed.

Wheels Manufacturing Options (one has better bearings if that makes a difference)

Toke Ninja

A rip off of the Token Ninja (they even use the Token instruction manual)

Be careful when choosing these screw in alternatives, as I think C-bear and Wheels Mfg need their own tool. Praxis uses a std Shimano tool Congress but you need two of them.

Getting special tools can push the price right up.

Nearly all my bikes are BB30.
Creaking can be prevented by a good installation of good quality bearings with 609 loctite.

Only if the bike mfr bothered to get the tolerances right. If you are using Campag or Shimano ( non BBright) I have no idea why you would eliminate all possibility of creaking and fit a Praxis type solution.

Takes 10 minutes and you don’t have to faff around with 609 ( which is good, I use it on my P3)

I’m hoping the government’s voucher will cover installation if I can find the right part. If not, then I’ll have to see about getting the right tool. It looks like the Token BB just uses a standard BB tool but I could very well be wrong.

Praxis don’t make one which works for my bike apparently. Contacted them when you suggested them before unfortunately.

I guy I know who was a bike mechanic in Poland, cytech qualified, he said to me that he prefers the Token Ninja for this situation. We were discussing new bikes and BBs last week.

Ordered the Token BB but to avoid special tools I called up the distributor who told me this uses the a Hollowtech 2 BB tool so pretty common. Much more useful than yet another single use item.

Does it only need one? How does it tighten against itself?

Needs 2. £10 for 2 off Amazon, or bike shop will have them if they install it.

I need to get the ultegra crank off the new bike when it comes. Installation of the FSA Gossamer just needs Allen keys from what I understand, but do I need one if these to get the shimano crank off? I think so.

It’s a R8000 crank if that makes a difference.

Yeah. It’s for the star shaped plastic bolt on the left hand crank arm.

They aren’t done up tightly. I’ve always used this random square shaped socket I have.

You only need to nip them up

I got one, you can fudge it but for a few quid it makes life easier when taking cranks on and off

Hi all. Quick bit of advice please. I’m installing a new press fit BB into my son’s road bike. It’s an old specialised frame that has a carbon shell. I’m putting an fsa BB into it. The instructions with the BB recommend using loctite 243 around the shells, but as it’s plastic on carbon I’m not sure this is going to work.
So use the loctite?
Press in dry?
Press in with lube? Most websites and YouTube hits give contradictory advice so I’d thought id rely on some random internet guys and gals. :+1:

Loctite will be fine. I had to use gorilla super glue last time I did my press fit on my propel

Ok. Picked up the Exocet 2 frame. I was hoping to just put my R7000 crank on it, but given its a Press Fit BB30 that’s not gunna happen.

What’s the best option? New Crank and sell the R7000? PF adaptor and keep the R7000.

Whats your thoughts?
