Nope, and I’m not far from their base iirc. That said, I’m not out and about much atm! I think they seem to ride south and east of Bristol mainly. Maybe I saw a full GCN kit once last year on our travels.

I heard a quote from Nike back in the early days when they were one of the 1st companies to go big on endorsements - ā€œWe can’t afford to pay for an advert on the back of Sports Illustrated, but we can afford to get our picture on the coverā€. Obviously things have moved on since then, and the situation is probably reversed now. But I suspect these companies are not expecting to pay for this through an increase in TT bike sales alone, but a more general brand awareness increase across the portfolio. They’ve certainly got a fair bit of traction on a minor triathlon forum in the UK from all this.

As for whether endorsements would change my buying decision, I have always been much more interested in the guys just below the elite level who have to buy their own kit, what are they spending their own money on?

Didn’t one American sponsored pro triathlete criticise his free kit on Slowtwitch a couple of years ago which caused all sorts of contract issues?

Dimond - ended in a lawsuit

A threatened lawsuit and a bit of a backdown on both sides I think. Jordan Rapp saw the money from DiamondBack and all of a sudden his Dimond was a death trap (they did seem to have build issues) but that didn’t stop him trying to get rid of his Dimond bikes to his ā€˜customers’ first.

then he had the begging bowl out for legal costs. Reminded me of the badges you could buy for Hamilton.

The TT route they use for their 1v2, 1v3, 1x4 rides must be close to you.

Hmm. Strokes goatee thoughtfully. Of course, I’d have to ride outside

That actually takes in two very small bits of the (former) Cotswold 226 course. Yes, I am familiar with these roads.

That killer hill they often use is the Old Bristol Road coming out of Wells towards Greenore. Been up there a gazillion times (slower than them!)

Specialized on their triathlon sponsorship changes

EDIT: just seen @FatPom has mentioned it

still a butt ugly bike

Not the only American Pro to publicly shoot themselves in the foot; much like Starky, sympathy falls between shit & syphalis in the dictionary.

The thing is, whilst Ā£60k is obviously an absolute mountain of cash for any individual, for a big business it’s a drop in the ocean.

As an example, a girl I knew at uni and am still ā€œfriendsā€ with on fb just won a competition on a horse riding facebook page. I think she simply had to share the post. She won this ffs! https://www.bloomfields.co/horsebox-models/legacy-s/
They don’t even say how much they are, but a quick google has second hand ones going for upwards of Ā£40k. And that’s just a social media giveaway for a pretty niche brand of specialised horse boxes. Compared to a major car manufacturer, they’d be tiny in terms of their marketing budget.

It’s all rather crazy.

It wasn’t any form of fancy financing, but I will admit the 6 months ā€œsplititā€ option on my new Canyon made a Ā£3k purchase seem a lot easier on the wallet. No hassle over proper credit checks either. A very simple approach.
