Pro bike sponsors

I bought my Canyon on a new 20 month Interest Free credit card; paid it off in a oner when I got my lump sum. CCs are brilliant when you know you have the cash coming, but want to enjoy now, pay later :+1:

Yep. I bought mine on a zero percenter. Paid it off last month (was an old card) as the 0% had run out and I had some savings accruing, for once.

If we need another big purchase (house, car repair or something like that) then I’ll grab the latest, longest 0% deal again.

Obviously much easier being in 2 x secure jobs.

What I took from that article is that Specialized has a much smaller budget for Triathlons.

You’ve got to look at this from the perspective of a Product Manager in Specialized: Think about the person who is responsible for the Shiv, he has got no development budget, he has had a massive fight to keep his job, and has been given a small amount of sponsorship budget to stay vaguely relevent in triathlon.

The person who is responsible for the Tarmac has a much bigger budget, ITU athletes are pretty cheap compared with Pro-cycling, so makes sense to keep a presence, especially in an Olympic year

Regarding the £60k van, how much does it actually cost to build? £25k, £40k?
It certainly isn’t costing them Ā£60k

There seems to be a huge premium on the VW Transporters. I mean what is it, some quilted vinyl, MDF cabinets and a glorified camping stove? (assuming no pop-top). How much would the equivalent work cost in your house…

I thought it was Devon, not Bristol.

Spot on. My mate converted one himself and it didn’t cost much as he knew what he was doing.

Who’s up for setting up TriTalkTV then? I’ll take 25% of revenue and put in 5% of the labour.

ā€œScene Taxā€ - even though the new VWs are no different to a Ford Transit or any other van (I include mine in this) the badge still carries kudos from the old Split Screens & Bays and are seen as the cool/trendy option. This has spiraled in the last couple of years (especially since Covid) as the hipsters got in on the act pushing prices higher still.
Ps. The plus side (and the reason I have a VW) is that same scene helps keep older ones alive due to specialist suppliers and parts availability, that you just wouldn’t get with a 25 year old Transit.

If she has to give it back at the end of the sponsorship deal then the 2nd hand value would probably exceed the cost to the company.

Have to say though, they drive amazingly well for a van and very quiet, for what they are. I imagine the campers develop rattles as they get older but the one we hired was 18mths old (we went for one with ISOfix) and didn’t make any noise.

Shifted along ok as well.

I’ve had to unfollow her.

I just can’t stand photo’s of people pretending to do something with a caption about what they doing, when in reality all they give a shit about is the product placement.

Here is me doing some lunges. With a can of RedBull perched next to your foot where it would never be if you were actually doing some lunges.
