It was wonderfully chaotic at the start but quickly became the top 2 battling it out. Loved the section by the sea, found it odd they went thru the waves but guess the sand was a worse option. Whole thing was utter madness, but didn’t the 21% bridge remind you of the one on the greenway over the A494?
That’s the bridge I use if I want to do hill efforts at lunch. I work right next to it.
Just looked at the Strava section, it’s about 6%
Well I knew it wasn’t 21% but…
My kids consider it the best bridge in the world (well 2 of them do…1 refused) for the ride back down…
Oops to add…yep I knew it was steep the way they were huffing and puffing…even I do the greenway hill seated…
I never race cross with that low a tyre pressure in my tubs. Others do, but I hate punctures while racing and I like more predictable handling than squidgy tyres give when going around corners, keep it smooth. I know the trade off is loss of grip.
A beast of of course. Legs and lungs must be hurting for a week after. Good fight for 1st and also 3rd. A real corker of a race, just like the womens. Real mental toughness.
Interesting to hear the love for the course, seemed utterly boring to me, endless sand, a couple of steep hills and lots of twisty mud.
A couple of interesting articles with the classics season about to start.
Trentin’s email is very interesting. 16 of 200 odd riders bothering to open their emails. That’s pretty bad.
And is the secret pro British? He used the term ‘fiver’, not sure if the antipodeans use that as well? Could be clever editing though.
I’m looking into getting a race pass of some sort to watch more cycle racing this year.
It seems like GCN have developed their ‘race pass’ into GCN+ where they also have a bunch of documentaries as well. But i can’t find anywhere on their website a list of what they’re actually going to show. The links go round and round in circles; or the best i got was a list for 2020. I’m guessing it won’t be any worse than the 2020 version? So assume this will be a decent enough deal, also they’re offering 50% off.
The opposition to this is Eurosport. Any idea what that’s like. Bearing in mind i have no interest in/time to watch 99% of the other stuff on there.
I’m leaning towards GCN+.
Any thoughts?
edit - i got impatient. haha
£20 for a year on GCN+ seems like good value to me.
I’ve had that, it’s basically Eurosport without adverts
Doesn’t Eurosport own GCN? I thought the cycling coverage was the same feed?
On 27 February 2017, Discovery Communications, the owner of Eurosport, announced the acquisition of a 20% stake in Play Sports Group, the company that owns the GCN channel. In 2019, Discovery Communications acquired a controlling interest in Play Sports Group and the GCN franchise, increasing holdings to 71%.
Yep. But the GCN pass is a lot cheaper than Eurosport … obviously only a single sport on GCN, but i don’t need the other stuff.
With the current £20 offer it is, but apparently Eurosport have £20 offers every so often. They are currently offering 99p for a month while the tennis is on. Eurosport would be good if the Olympics happens, otherwise not sure how much other sport I would watch either.
I rarely watch any telly. But i’m trying to think of ways to fill my downtime rather than ending up in the endless internet scroll hole (as someone named it recently). If i have an app with a bunch of cycling races on, hopefully i can at least get into the habit of watching some decent sport instead.
You can cast the GCN app to your new TV
I could but Mrs GB will probably be watching Neighbours and Home & Away at the times i’m looking to fill!
So i’ll be relegated to phone/ipad!
This website is handy although much of the coverage is not in English. It’s also on Twitter under Pete Geyer where he tweets the links as they go live.

Eurosport used to do all the Triathlon coverage; of course I’m going back nearly 30 years now
Oohh MvdP wins in UAE yesterday in his opening road race of the year.
Today team has to pull out due to Covid positive.
That’s bad luck.
Let’s hope it’s not the same outcome as last years race!
Ganna wins his 8th consecutive TT
