Tom Pidcock live in cyclocross World Champs Sunday 2.10pm on iPlayer/bbc sport website. Can’t say I’ve ever watched cyclocross, but may give it a whirl if I can find room in my hectic social schedule…
It is absolutely mental.
Leg it up some random steps in a field, then coast downhill on an absolute quagmire. Like cross country on LSD.
Since following gcn for a year or so now, I’ve been exposed to it this winter for the first time. Looks mental!
Can’t see TP beating the big two though. It’s pretty much been MvdP, WvA, TP on the podium every week.
Might have to catch that on catchup on Sunday evening.
Raced cyclo cross for years. 1 hour maxed out. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Get in there.
Never raced it myself but loads at my club do. It looks huge fun but a tough lonely hour for beginners due to seeding on the start. My club even have a portable jet wash for the pits and most of the kids have 2 bikes as well.
Sod that I would be thrown off the course for being a danger to myself, every rider and spectator.
My bike handling skills are perfect for Zwift,
Mountain bike is good enough to get started or an old 2nd hand cross bike. You really don’t need all the fancy stuff to get going. Jet wash in pits and 2 bikes, leave that to those who want to be pros or have too much money. I take my cross bike and sometimes stick my mountain bike in the pits, but have never used it.
Outside in the wind today had me thinking the same!
Brilliant response
…
Got the email of Rapha and watched the video this aft - brilliant stuff
Just watched the women’s race. Fantastic racing & what a great course. Looking forward to the fella’s race tomorrow.
Agree. Leg sapping, lung busting course. You could see them making more little mistakes as they went deep in the red and exhaustion took over. Serious mental toughness for the top 3. Great race.
The ducks made too much of a splash.
Top stuff
Has there been any OOC Testing during the pandemic? I thought the distance running WRs last year were probably no coincidence.
I can only find USADA numbers, but ~3.7k ooc tests conducted in 2020, vs 10k in 2019
So looks like it was juice up all you want for 2020.
Get caught, appeal, retroactive 2 year ban; probably still in lockdown by then
Pretty much all testing stopped April onwards but slowly restarted in summer. Don’t know if then stopped again in winter.
6 months April - Sept 2020 UKAD did 1650 tests, compared to 7400 in same 6 months of 2019. Think there was also a shift away from blood tests too to only doing urine.
Premier League announced something similar. Think the first 3 months of covid they only tested something like 10-20 players.
They test players?
For sure this is jokes, right?
Who’s going to win the cyclo cross race the afternoon? Place your bets.
Yeah thats probably their normal , 5 players a month, 1%
Just watched the World CX Champs.
Jeeeezus that course & the strength they have to race it. Straight up a 21% climb after the beach section & then watching them taking the steps 2 at a time. I’ve raced CX on & off for 10/11yrs, but this was amazing to watch.
