Geraint Thomas has signed a new 2 year contract with Ineos.
I thought he might have retired this year after his Giro 2nd place, but it seems he’s hungry for more racing. I can’t help thinking that the Giro was his last chance of another grand tour win

Utterly lacking in class from someone who has been head & shoulders above everyone else this season.
Spitting at someone is a really disgusting thing to do. Shame on him.
Cycling is still a very working class sport in Europe and cross supporters can be as hideous/odious as select groups of football fans. I’m sure there was a build up to it. Doesn’t justify the behaviour but puts it into context - ie. not exactly surprising.
In the post race interview he said they’d been booing/abusing him from his warm-up, all the way through the race & he’d had enough…
There is a report that a pint of piss was thrown at him just before the spitting incident

I went to watch a cyclocross race in Flanders a few years ago and it was won quite comfortably by a Walloon rider and the Flemish crowd booed him all the way round the course for the last few laps when it became clear that he was going to beat their local favourite

Ghent is a shithole but this is worth a visit. I’ve raced on a 250mtr track, that’s bloody scary enough. Can’t imagine slinging on a 166!

He sits in for 15/20mins then just drops a bomb. Everyone knows it’s coming but noone has an answer to it. Totally imperious.
The shoes get tightened and you know it’s coming. Just felt sorry for 2 teams with 3 guys each and they still couldn’t do a thing but watch him disappear.
Sounds like Alaphillipe in his prime - everyone knew that he was going to attack on the climb, but no one could do anything about it when it happened
