I’m not going to spoil it and just saw the result on the BBC, any free highlights like YouTube?

Cycling, bloody hell!

I know the title says spoilers but everyone is being very discrete.

How?

So did Del Toro lose it by bluffing with Carapaz, or just not have the legs to chase?

I think the team cost him, he was on the radio a lot, and im sure they thought they’d pull back the minute and half from the Finestre. I wonder if they forgot Wout was in the breakaway as well as once he dropped back it was game over.

Summary

In his interview he seems to suggest he was more worried about a counter attack from Carapaz, not sure how much that is just saying he didn’t have the legs to chase

Well, that was unexpected.

Now that it’s the morning after, I reckon we can talk freely!

Yeah - WTF happened :exploding_head::woman_shrugging:t2:
Carapaz and Del Toro looked as though they were in the velodrome on the first two laps of a sprint race :face_with_peeking_eye::joy:

Did the team miss Yates going up the road?

Were their radios not working?

Did they both miss that bright yellow TJV jersey thundering past them on its way to grab some black pudding?

Yates totally nailed that, took advantage of how blinkered those two were and absolutely smashed them out of the park.

He was a fair way back at the foot of that final climb (30-40s or so) but as he’s said so many times before, he just likes to ride at his pace, which he did, and it worked :white_check_mark::fire:

Vuelta and now Giro winner
He’s getting on a bit now, relatively speaking for Pro cycling, so maybe not one for the TdF.
But him and his brother have been pretty much stealth their whole careers - never hearing much noise about them, they just quietly get on with things.

Brilliant stuff.

The way that WVA buried himself for Yates was great to see. I think the fact that there were 6 attempts to break away and were closed down meant they got complacent when he tried again.

It’s round here tomorrow but I’m pretty much out of holidays so stuck in the gulag, and for the men today.

Edit: if they show the podiums I think the young girls helping to present today’s jerseys are from Stockton Wheelers  brilliant for them, they look well happy on the club page!

I’m half-expecting an “introductory offer” from TNT for June and July, because there’s very little football/rugby going on, and regulars for those sports will have unsubscribed meanwhile. Maybe TNT have that priced-in, however.

They must be suffering from the lack of cycling fans that have coughed up. I think they needed 20% of people to sign up after the Eurosport deal finished but only 6% or 7% did.

There’s still a fair bit of rugby going on until the end of June and certainly the URC and English premiership has yet to conclude, plus France are still playing games in the Top 14.
