Pog to go solo from Arenberg next weekend?

I think he’ll find it harder to dominate due to the lack of hills?

An attack on the pave is like an attack on a hill - if he can put in a sustained burst of high power he can get a gap and then he’s in TT mode to the finish

:man_shrugging:

Gravity though, power to weight less of a factor.

Have you ever ridden on the Roubaix pave?

It’s like turning the resistance up on your turbo when you hit it.

The shape of those cobbles is different and the crown probably favours a more TT focussed rider like Evenepoel.
Cross/headwinds could be a massive factor in whether a break could stick as well I guess.

It’s where us fatties can shine

Almost no winners of Roubaix are climbers or GC riders. Hinault was the last…in 1981.

It’s a hard feeling to describe. ā€˜Float heavy with power and loose wrists’ is the best I can come up with.

Rubbing is racing will also do.

But lots of riders win both Roubaix and Flanders.

It’s the same sort of explosive power.

GC riders don’t tend to race Roubaix because of the high risk of injuries and the pure climbers get bounced around on the cobbles, but it’s suited to strong time trialists with good bike handling on the rough stuff.

Pog has won Strade Bianchi loads of times and he’s strong enough to go solo from 80km out, so he should be a contender at Roubaix if the team lets him go.

Yeah, you want to be skipping along the top of the cobbles.

It’s very difficult to ride them slowly because there’s so much resistance from every cobble impact at low speed and your front wheel is diverted in all directions

Flat cobbles suit me more because I’m heavier with a bit of a TT bias.

Climbing cobbles in Flanders I found hard ,because on the very steep climbs I move slowly, that means the corner of the cobble can ā€˜grab’ the front wheel. This was worse when there is a wider ā€˜mortar gap’ between them.

Some cobbles are tight like Lego bricks and others look like they were laid by Tobes after a night on the cans.

No doubt Pogacar is a favourite, but I simply said he’s unlikely to dominate. Surely not controversial?

Pogi created the gap and then increased it further on the climbs. Not saying he can’t do similar on the cobbles but I think MvdP, Remco and even Ganna (is he racing?) can do lot better in Paris Roubaix.

Ganna did most of the P-R route in training last week

Paul Seixas gives off some serious Il Falco vibes!

If Pog wins P-R on Sunday he will be the holder of all 5 monuments
