Tbf bikes now are definitely faster than back then. Not sure how the weight claims stack up though, as they didn’t have the UCI lower limit and Pantani was a weight weenie?

I went to the Pantani museum in Cesenatico in 2012 the had some of his old bikes (or replicas). They looked pretty rubbish compared with Say Wiggins’s tour Pinarello of that year which was hanging up in the bar in Mallorca when I was there.

I think they said the first crash was in a tunnel so not captured by the live TV.
The second crash could have been so much worse if that net wasn’t there

The course was shortened so that the police and emergency services aren’t diverted from the wildfires.
They started from the finish line on the Champs Elysee and the whole race is on the finish circuits
