2nd place GC and 2(?) stage wins?

I haven’t watched any cycling this year until the Tour, but based on what I saw in this race I was beginning to wonder if FDJ and Cofidis still had teams

Against 6th and 7th in the GC, Green Jersey, 1 stage win and countless intermediates plus top 10 at the finish line.

Just surprised that high GC seems to top everything else. Although I doubt anyone is too bothered about their prize money compared to what the exposure offers them.

Green jersey in Paris only earns you €25,000 :man_shrugging:

there’s some odd prizes given, and they go quite deep even for intermediate sprints, or KOMs
oh and best teammate is definitely open to interpretation

I read somewhere that ASO made something like £80million from this years race and only pay out around £2m in prizes

Those expensive Paris offices don’t pay for themselves

Surely a number of those teams made a loss?

I recon most of them made a loss, cant be cheap schlepping around France for 3 weeks in price hiked hotels.

Doesn’t the race organisation provide the hotels, just to make sure that every team gets a chance to stay in a rubbish budget hotel and UAE can’t go 5-star all the way?

:man_shrugging:

That prize money is what goes to the riders, not what they use to put diesel in the bus

Presumably the star riders share their prizes with the riders who help them get the results?

It cost all of the teams to do the race, but the sponsors are paying them on the basis that they will show up and be prominent in the big races

Yes but I think the teams still pay though I may be wrong. Remember when they stopped Sky using a bus for the riders to sleep in!

Each team gets a set number of rooms per night (can’t remember what it is) for riders and staff, but these days with the increase in staff most teams have to pay for extra rooms. Teams also get cash to help with their costs, for instance they negotiated an increase to this for this years Giro due to the start in Albania

€832k is ā€˜nothing’ to a team funded by UAE.

€25k for winning the Green Jersey is dog shit.

At least ASO kept cycling out of Saudi’s grubby LIV hands.
