No Froome or Caruso thanks to covid then

WvA off already, good effort, less than 500m covered

He’s mental. Just having a laugh every single day, on another planet completely.

He could probably win Tour of Britain.
I say probably as it depends if it goes past Stoke on a wet, grey Tuesday :man_facepalming:t4:

Ok on that point above … why does WvA not get the finger pointed at him for the old Um Bongo then? He’s recovering, literally, like no other on these races. He’s just not paying for any of these crazy rampages he goes on daily.

Is it because he was prodigiously talented throughout his career? Or because he’s Belgian or what?

Been looking at that today actually. Planning a potential day out to go watch it, but will have to go all the way over to @fruit_thief territory in Dorrrrset.

He’s not absolutely drilling himself day in, day out.
He’s easing off and rolling home most days now.
So half of the day is ā€œactive recoveryā€ once he’s done his job.

But being such a prodigious talent for so long, with a long history of transparent results, and being Belgian also helps, yes.

Nice find!

I know these roads pretty well & reckon either of these 2 places would be great to watch. The Lulworth ranges road is really spectacular, with sea on one side of the ridge, but Okeford Hill is also pretty decent with views over the Blackmore Vale to the north.

On a Saturday too, I will pedal out for sure

YEah, we’re thinking about riding over on the Friday. Stay overnight somewhere and then watch it somewhere cool, and ride home.

Won’t you be in the desert?

It runs through Cirencester on the Friday. Something for @BadAsh and @Sowler?

Thursday for Midlands/Nottingham, so @mw22 and @Poet

He rides for Jumbo-Visma, it’s not like it’s team with a dirty history like Rabobank. Seriously though he does, maybe not on here.

I don’t have the benefit of the historical knowledge, having only got into cycling as my main spectator sport really over the past few years, with a fleeting interest since about 2012 or so.

For brevity just assume every TdF winner since LeMond was dirty except Carlos Sastre. Prior to that there was lots of drugs too and blood doping too.

ETA: That might also mean you missed my joke as TJV is the current incarnation of Rabobank. Thomas Dekker’s book is my favourite book on cycling in that era, an honest account of how an extremely talented youngster gets sucked into that world and how much internal turmoil it causes if you’re not a sociopath or really good rationalising it.

WTF was that about, might lose his press driving licence after that

ETA - looks like DSM chap catches first motorbike causing UAE car to brake, press guy doesn’t read the situation and Bauer has nowhere to go but the ground

Thanks for the heads up. I’m not a huge spectator of cycling on TV or otherwise but as its coming through here I will make a note to go watch! I presume fully closed roads while they are coming through? Otherwise some interesting route choices!

Good news…Literally goes past my work…
Bad news…WFH day :grimacing:

Clearly it’s the massive quantities of Red Bull he drinks as part of his sponsorship deal.

Couldn’t possibly be anything else, could it?

OI!
I’m Cheshire, now, doesn’t come close to me

Came right past my road end last year.

Goes through Redcar/Whitby/Saltburn though @jeffb

Here we go then … DQS slipping off the back already. Long day ahead for Fabio
