Felt like that for Pog last year when he’d sprint from nearly every group stage to try get 1s, but this year seems more astute. His 8s gain yesterday is presumably despite a similar effort from Vingegaard
I rode the last 60ish km of today’s stage last year.
The Joux Plain is a hard climb. It was baking hot while we were climbing and then it clouded over as we approached the top and absolutely tipped it down on the descent into Morzine . The descent is quite technical, so if Tom Pidcock is in the lead group over the top it’s made for him to attack.
Posted on the other thread.
Pog all the way today.
Looks like thunderstorms for the Cheshire, so might watch it live
THOSE FRESHLY TARMAC’D ROADS
They might be like quick sand in the heat! Look like glass though … there’s about 1km of pure fresh tarmac somewhere near Tarporley, it’s crazy just how much quicker you go over it.
WTF WAS THAT
(WvA going uphill like it’s flat!!!)
Well I nearly swapped in Pidcock and considered dropping either Hindley or van Aert. Glad I didn’t. But 2 of my cheap cyclists really are pointless.
What a glorious day in sunny france.
Pog blown?
WHAT A STAGE
Roll on tomorrow
Great stage. Jonas showed his experience there with a little help from the camera bikes.
Great ride by Rodriguez to claw his way back to the front and then to attack at just the right time
Not reading any posts as I’m on catch-up for stage 13.
Got an empty house, a glass of cheap red and a plate of cheese and crackers.
Vive la Tour!
Your definition of “little” may differ to Pogs
Bloody good racing this year. Non-stop action across a lot of the distance. No grinding up the climbs before a 500m sprint to the line.
Great stage
Massive crash just took out half of the peloton
One of the Jumbo riders hit a spectator
Yeah, shame as it’s calmed down the day.
Missed that.
I wondered why nothing much happened over the last hour …
But meanwhile, on BBC1
I’m always expecting Pogačar to pull away and win, and even when he doesn’t I assume he’s playing a game He just doesn’t look like he’s really working hard.
Great stage again. Fingers crossed this continues for the final week.
Loved the finish. Nice for Poels, tight for Pog and Ving. Great from A Yates too.
Time trial on Tuesday? Blimey. At least they’ve got a day off I suppose.
