Me too and iron out any energy & hydration issues there might be.

Also it wasn’t a hot day by the sounds.

The AB we know has raced himself into a nutrional bonk before and he runs hard until he’s weaving around the road barely conscious.

Looked more like he didn’t have the fire to suffer go to a dark place this time. Is his heart really in it?

Podium at StG in 5 weeks looks a big ask.

Looks like they had a shortened swim in Nelson Mandela Bay - 8 minute swims posted.

Pro swim was 700m

Looked rough but not unswimable

Skipper in the lead pack of 12 at 58km on the bike.

Susie Cheetham is racing too, also in the lead pack of 3

Looks cold and miserable out there, not what you’d expect for IMSA. Who is on the Dimond?

Skipper looking good on the run, very relaxed

What’s the gap. Coverage is pretty poor as usual.

Up to a minute for skipper. But Buckingham is going too fast imo - 2h30 pace I think. Hoping Joe let’s them go and reels them back in.

Skipper is on 2h40 pace.

Nice one. I saw skipper going backwards on the tracker and assumed others where going to fast. He normally judges the run well…

Saw Skipper dropped to 5th, but checked his pace and it looks fine. Think you are right, he’s a smarter cookie these days and will probably hunt them down.

Yeah, I’d agree. Joe actually ran a fraction faster pace over that last split. Everyone else slowed quite a bit. Gotta think Joe is pacing it properly and all the others have got a bit over excited

He’s ticked it up again pace wise. So for sure you can say it’s not like he’s technically “struggling”. It’s a ballsy way to approach the run though. Out of T2 in the joint lead, and has now just let the gap grow to 1:45. If it pays off, and he’s judged this perfectly, chapeau

Hmm, past half way and they’ve more or less slowed to his pace, holding him off. Has he got it right? Has he got the patience? I suspect he’s thinking about turning it up at 30km if they don’t slow any more. He had that one guy run away with it at Switzerland last year and he stayed with his own game then for a great run but only second place…might be on his mind again.

I’m still positive at this stage.
Joe’s splits pace wise (ignoring the first mile) … 3:53/3:51/3:49/3:53

The leader … 3:39/3:45/3:46/3:54

Its definitely clear that Joe is running a steady race, whilst the others are on a very obvious downward trajectory.

He’s made back a fraction of time in that last split, but as I said above, it’s still a very ballsy way to run. He’s gotta be confident he can hold this pace to the end. As we saw yesterday with AB, and as I’m sure we all know from our own races, if the others have slightly overcooked they could hemorrhage time over the final few km

Weiss moving backwards :+1:
Two to go

He lost a bit more time to the leaders in that last split, so nearly 2mins now, but actually pretty much held his pace. So he’s holding to his own plan. Just have to see if it pays off…

Hmm, maybe we were being too patriotic. He’s slowed a bit that last split, in line with everyone else, and lost more time

Well in hindsight. But Buckingham finished with a 2h41 run, so I think Joe chose the right thing he just faded to a 2h45.

Those South Africans sure did well.

Will be interesting to hear Skippers next podcast. With the swim all but cancelled he must’ve been confident getting on the bike.

Wonder if he thinks he can still beat the Norwegians?

I’m sure they’ve looked at his result and smiled.
