Got to wonder how much impact having a kid has had on him (and Lionel maybe). From experience you’d have to be pretty much 100% hands off and sleep in a different house for it not to have some impact if you’re trying to train 30 hours+ a week, given there’s a younger generation out there who have no such life constraints.

So… it’s the T100 London race this weekend. Age groupers doing the full 100k race (there’s sprint and olympic distance as well) get to cycle to Big Ben and get to see some sights of London.
The Pro Race - the one that’ll be on TV does 8 laps around Excel and the O2 arena - so no beautiful sights of London.
I guess it’s good for getting broadcast coverage from stationary cameras and I guess they weren’t allowed to close off the main roads in London just for 20 pro athletes each afternoon. Pro race starts at 2pm Saturday and 2pm Sunday (or thereabouts). Age group racing is early morning starts.

I briefly saw an interview with his dad who said they thought they’d go non wetsuit to keep his core temperature down as the water wasn’t too cold. With a wetsuit he may have been pretty hot when he got out so they thought they’d try that as a strategy. It seems to be working (at present).
