He’s been checking out Lionel’s YouTube channel maybe

Anyone see Varga at Texas?

Seemed to be right at the front and dropped out half way through the run.

Hopefully he listened to JB, though…

Yeah he looked pretty good swim and bike.

Super league yesterday, womens, wha…?!

Jess still recovering from 70.3, Potter went out too hard in the heats and GTB never performs as well indoors.

Keep the faith!

But running as fast as Alex Yee?

Potter said “I couldn’t believe the numbers coming out of her treadmill” or something, maybe not the best phrasing but she was saying what a lot of us must’ve been thinking. If it’s legit, she’s amazing! Looked cool as a cucumber too.

Not necessarily a surprise. Her weekness was always bike handling, so Zwift is going to play to her advantage. Then they say the treadmills respond well to long strides.

Yeah, the Eurosport commentators seemed to suggest that her treadmill had a funny calibration. But that’s the problem with that type of event, surely all machines have a degree of variance in their output readings. :man_shrugging:

Rapheal had his race ruined by faulty tech.

I reckon they dragged her down to the track after the race at midnight with Yee and beat her at mile repeats until she said she was sorry

No I’ve got no problem with the result, but it’s when they said she had run fast enough to come third in the Mens race that I thought…hmm.

Looks like Laura Phillip is potentially the next big name on the casualty list, which is a shame as she was a big favourite.

Both Norwegians hit by bad colds in the last few weeks as well. Not sure if this is normal, but it’s just kept under the radar, or if more people are getting ill due to covid, reduced immune systems etc etc

I’m still really looking forward to this. I’ve got the kids solo next weekend as the Mrs is at a hen do. Not sure if that means I’ll be more or less able to watch it. Need to find out the time zones and stuff.

It’s the Saturday isn’t it?

I’m not actually sure. No idea where/how they’re broadcasting either. Anyone know?

Edit -

The big race takes place on Saturday May 7, 2022 in St George, Utah.

The Pro Men will start first at 0615 local time. That’s 1315 UK time, 1415 CET and 0815 Eastern Time.

The Pro Women are set to follow five minutes later, followed by the Physically Challenged / Handcycle athletes at 0625 and then a 20-minute gap until the Age Group waves start from 0645.

The race will be broadcast live by IRONMAN via Facebook Watch and YouTube, and assuming it’s available for embed we will post it right here on race day. That way you can watch it without leaving the familiar surroundings of TRI247.

This is perfect. Catch the start, see who’s out on the bike first, what the gaps are etc. Go out with the kids for a few hrs. Come back and pop it on the Google whilst I make dinner see how the end of the bike is shaping up.

Put the kids to bed, catch up on the last half of the run. Bed by 10.

Haha, same - should work out nicely!

Looking forward to it, even though there would be a pretty competitive WC field made up of those who’ve withdrawn.

If AB is ever to podium at an Iron distance WC this has to be it, racing a WC without Kona heat/humidity. He is now all in on 140.6 unlike previously with the sub 7 prep, and frankly if he doesn’t figure really strongly at the pointy end then I think sub 7 is a long shot.

I’ll go

  1. Iden
  2. The MIGHTY Lion
  3. AB
Rumours are Blu is off the pace atm so leaving him out. Long has recently crashed his bike and is quite beat up.

Women is probably Haug vs Kat, I’ll go Kat with the other podium spot wide open. This should also tell us whether Ryf is still a contender, I’m guessing not. Going self coached means she is racing happy but not at the level as under Sutton.

I’ve cleared the decks for some heft watching shifts although will get bored and do other stuff at times. Also need to eye up the course for the 70.3 WC in October.

Thanks, If that is the new Giant Trinity I feel sad.

I Just posted this in ST.

With the Sub 7 and Sub 8 coming up next month, I doubt the Blumenfeld, Kat Matthews or Alistair Brownlee will race hard. My prediction is that Blumenfeld will be pace man for Iden on the Swim and Bike and will pull out or cruise the run. I’m not a massive Lionel fan, however, this is his big shot, and he is looking really good. Nasty conditions on bike will suit Cam Wurf, no idea if he can still run though. Seb Kienle has been really quiet, he must fancy a shot as underdog

  1. Iden
  2. Sanders
  3. Kienle

Women

Daniella has lost her cloak of invincibility, and its probably a new experience coming in as underdog, however, it would be silly to write her off, recent performance shouldn’t have her at the top of my list… but I live in Switzerland and she is my hero. Anne Haug was so impressive in Kona, I think she will dig deep, age is irrelevent, she has to be one of the favourites. No I am being biased, Fenella Langridge comes started in Salisbury Tri around the same time I started there. Here rise through the ranks has been mega impressive, and possibly inspired my own rise through the AG ranks. Her performance in Challenge Salou 4 weeks ago demonstrates that she is at the top or her game and is race fit. With Kat Matthews sub 8 attempt, will she lead out Fenella to a podium?

  1. Ryf
  2. Haug
  3. Langridge

They spend so much time together I’m not surprised that when one catches something, the other also comes down with it
