Pro race chat (Tri)

Forecast is for lots of wind in the afternoon

The data shows that for sub 7 and 8 neither Kat, KB or AB will have to ride hard at all so they will race hard. It’s a WC

Someone who has been quiet and is a proven bike/runner is Bart Aernouts.

Laura Philipp definitely out now - covid

Cam Wurf has confirmed he is racing

Is that really more important to any of them on the day? I think the ITU guys could just fight each other for the win. So this could be Blu, Brownlee, Iden tearing it up out of T2. That could be Lionel’s chance, and catch them at the end of the run like the last race….but as they burn each other up will they be in the lead by then?

Nilssen
Iden
Baekkegard

For the girls I’m going for

Anne Haug
Kat Matthews (you guys convinced me)
Carrie Lester

I don’t think Ryf has it anymore, but would love to be proved wrong.

I had lunch with Nilssen at Challenge Salou, just happened to be at the table. Really nice guy, very strong on bike, but others run better

Wheels out of phase

I know it shouldn’t matter but it’s driving me mad about that photo

Also it’s not quite a Softride with spinergys a la Jürgen Zack, although it’s a pretty good effort

I wonder if the training for sub 7 will affect how Brownlee and Blum race

For the sub 7 they need to be good on the bike but not amazing, as it will be all about the drafting, but amazing on the run.

So maybe this will translate to them being happy to sit in the pack on the bike at St G then going crazy on the run

Brownlee to blow up in the first 10k after hammering the other two.

Blum to secure a solid top 10.

Saddle is too low

Would love to see Ali take this, but he needs to reign it in on the bike.

I can’t help feeling for whoever wins, it’s not Kona, the holy grail.

Think Ali has a reasonable shout. Field has weakened a bit and rumours of the Norwegians having colds. Ali’s blow up in Oceanside has put him off the radar a bit which is a good place to be. It’s not Kona oppressive humidity, although it will be hot.

He’s had his first block of proper run training done for 2/3 years, and surely has dialled in nutrition, pacing etc with the sub 7 prep. It’s also the first time he’s been all in at 140.6 distance in terms of training focus.

Yes he does need to get that race head thinking LC as opposed to ITU - if he hasn;t learnt after ripping the bike to get back after the puncture at Kona 19 then he never will…

I’ll say he’ll finish 3rd. Think Gustav is the class of the field, and a feeling that the LION will chew his way onto the podium.

Think i’m with you on this one. But i wouldn’t put it past Lionel to take the top step. I have a feeling, despite the Norwegian ‘hype train’ ( ) , that he may gut it out and take a one and only WC.

Has @joex hacked your account? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I was obviously joking about the saddle height on KB’s bike and I am fully aware that my eyes and opinions are not quite equal to wind tunnel data but he doesn’t look as aero as a lot of top pro’s.

I just have a funny feeling. I’ve always written him off, but i think he’s looking good this year. There’s no Jan, which i think helps him more than anything due to his obsession with him.

If i’m going for the heart option, then i’d like to see Ali for the patriotic choice or Sebi who’s always been one of my favourite athletes since i started following the sport in 2012.

I thought Sebi had said he was retiring?

Is this his last shot?

Wasn’t he retiring at the end of the year, so one StG and one Kona and that’s it?

Dream scenario:

  1. AB
  2. Sebi
  3. McNamee

LION: DNF

I’d pull a pew up on ST if this happens……

Yeah, I’m not sure. I remembering him saying he was calling it a day.

Also really like him, like you GB, he was at the top of his game when I got into Tri. Like his personality, seems like a decent, funny guy

Sebi said 2 more years - 1st was going to be one last massive effort at StG, Kona then the second sounded like a bit of a victory lap soaking it all up without being really competitive.

I bet he’d make a great coach! So positive, always funny but he had a serious handle on the technical etc side. Imagine how you’d feel after your fortnightly 1:1. I’d be trying to provoke him into saying ‘thin line between fit and fucked’ all the time though:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Lionel winning is the only way slowtwitch will claim the StG champion is a real WC. Any other winner and it will always be “but it wasn’t Kona”
