I was going to post how I always liked Skipper, not everyone can win & everyone is an expert with how someone else races/trains but now he can feck off into obscurity

Absolutely with you. He failed in my opinions a long time ago when he went ranting about paying to get his bikes on flights he’d booked. Anybody with half a brain cell knew you had to pay.
He now just sits firmly in the category of someone I’d really avoid interacting with.

I’m not going to back track, I thought he brought fun and a laddishness that engaged a demographic that is otherwise excluded, that would encourage those guys to take part.
I also think he had some stellar performances, imo his chance was scuppered my covid, he looked to be peaking after a record performance at IM end of 2019, then set another record int he 12TT
His sense of direction is worse than mine though

I think his chance was scuppered long before covid with his apparent lack of objective team around him (unless that was all for the cameras). But he had fun travelling the world and did pretty well, but with his bike and run feel it was a talent that could have done more (before the ITU lads all stepped up and changed the sport)

He probably would have done well to just break even financially over his racing career 
His partner is/was a doctor, right?

When I used to watch his YouTube videos she’s was/is certainly medical (works at a hospital), but not sure in what capacity.

I’d guess he was probably averaging around £75k per year for multiple years in his peak, some more some less depending on results, with some expenses covered, for doing his enjoyment/hobby. Call me harsh but I don’t feel too sorry for him, he’s had the option of getting a different ‘job’ at any point in the last 10 years.
His partner may now be earning around that as well, but wouldn’t have been when they were first together.

I wonder if coming second by over 5 minutes at Outlaw Holkham the weekend was a factor in the decision (realisation it was time.)

Ours go on Facebook a lot taking photos of broken benches or the ducks. If people moan about fly tipping, roadworks or car crime they say they have been in touch will the council/police/water company and they are working hard to fix it. Then everyone claps and says what a great job you do and they post a photo in a spoons.

A friend of mine became a councillor in her thirties. She said she just got called all hours of the night by old people complaining. She told me a story about a zebra crossing, where they all had to go “on site” to argue about whether it was where planned or a few feet to the left.
Inspiring stuff. Democracy in action.
