Contrast Alex Yee:
5ft10 and 110 lbs (as we are using those units of measurement)

I just don’t understand how Blu outran Alex Yee for Olympic gold. Spectacular that he did, but doesn’t the physiology suggest he should be at a disadvantage in a sport that involves lifting bodyweight with every step?

Do you ever see 80kg runners in the 10km track or marathon? I can’t remember any.

But I love it that he can win

I think he out smarted Alex in Tokyo. Alex would beat him hands down any footrace, but wonder if he didnt go with the kick because he thought it was too fast to hold and that Blu would blow. Once gone its hard to bring back also. Either way a ~77kg short bloke with a bit of timber is going sub 30 for 10k off the bike, thats incredible. Love to see what his physiological measures are. Norwegians are not unknown to have high VO2 max in elite sport, some of those XC skiers are huge.

Hes about 2 Alex Yees currently

Reminds me of Ain Alar Juhanson , 6ft 5 and 95kg but won IM Lanza twice and always fast!

Tjorborn Sindballe.
Back in the late noughties he was 80-85kg and 190cm, which was thought of as “large” at the time.
He raced in all white and wore arm coolers.
But he looked massive, too.

I’m currently 87kg at 185cm 🫣
I have my best HM time and 70.3 times at roughly that weight. Also got my best overall triathlon position at that weight, too. Best IM bike split, too.

A lot to be said for being too lean :+1:t3:

Macca actually put weight on and then won Kona, said he was always ill. Sutto has also been known to feed up his athletes.

People on Slowtwits have said that KBlum has experimented with dropping his weight a bit but goes slower

Jason Shortis was a big unit that went ok as well.

Yeah - I recall Macca saying that.
Loved his interviews. He was absolutely ace.

@r0bh - Yes, this Norwegian duo are leaving nothing to chance and testing everything. The preconceptions of “weight” being one of them :+1:t3:

Although, to be fair, my tits bounce walking down the stairs, so I could do with dropping some body fat :see_no_evil:
weight ≠ fat :+1:t3:

I’m sure he told them all about his weight loss efforts :joy:

I never realised how bouncy I was until I saw this. I don’t think the hydro vest and yellow shirt helped my cause here (1.45 in)

Never mind the bouncy tits, is that a West Country accent you’re sporting there?
Or just an out of breath Pirate-Esque panting?

Yeah fatpom has a proper pirate accent - I was surprised when I met him :pirate_flag:

Our very own Robert Newton :parrot::pirate_flag:

Unfortunately that’s my accent. I had a meet n greet with some new cyclist in Sydney once and got told, ‘it’s not funny anymore’. and a mate had to explain that’s how I talk.

Everyday is talk like a pirate day for me :hear_no_evil:

When I used to fly business class for board meetings, people thought I was a stowaway

I just expected you to have a non-accent, due to the amount of travel you’ve done :see_no_evil::man_shrugging:t4::roll_eyes:
