no algae. all is good. don’t believe rumours
If you believe the rumours, just chug a can of coke after you get out and you’ll be fine.
I don’t. I think it was 220, but could be wrong who published some tests of various substances and their ability to neutralise bugs and coke was no better than loads of other things. (I think Olive oil came out better from memory) Certainly nowhere near as powerful as anything already in your stomach.
I like Coke, and drink far too much of it, but not sold on its healing powers.
ETA - There’s a local race in the river Severn that I’ve done 3 times. Twice I was violently ill 36/48 hours afterwards. The only time I wasn’t was when I was already on antibiotics for a nasal infection, coincidence? I don’t know enough to say.
Think I’d rather chug a can of Coke than a glass of olive oil!
Upton Tri? If so, I had the same experience
Yep, managed to pass it on to my partner and son both times too, so was well popular.
The organisers tried to play it down for a long time, claiming it was just a couple of people but I personally knew more then they were claiming.
In the group of 6 doing it from work 3 were ill. We all drank the coke at the end
ETA: At least the swim times were good with the current assistance
That was my experience too, about 50% of the people I knew got sick.
Shame because it’s a nice race and I used to enjoy doing it but just can’t risk it anymore. It used to sell out within a few days of opening on New Years Day, but that dwindled (pre-covid) and last I heard the organisers (who own the land) were trying to pass it on to someone else. I think word got round about the illness and they made more money from the various festivals they put on.
Anyway, I appear to have derailed this thread enough, back to the Commonwealth Games.
Although it’s relatively local, it’s going to be watched on TV for me. No access to the swim unless I go onto the golf course and watch from the opposite side to the transition area. No access to the run course without a ticket which we missed out on the ballot for. I could see them four times on the bike course but that seems a bit too much effort for my liking.
One of the lads at the tri club said he looked at going but they wanted £90 a ticket. Him, his wife and 2 girls, add in petrol and drinks/snacks and you’re looking at £400 to watch a race 30 miles up the road.
Ps. I suspect he left it quite late so that may be the highest price ticket and was all that was left when he looked.
I’ll be heading down to watch Superleague tri in Canary Wharf in September for free. Plus as they go round and round on a small course you see them lots.
Ali Brownlee 5 minutes clear coming out of T2 at Swansea 70.3. No live coverage anywhere I don’t think
Lets see how far he can run…
3:21/km isn’t holding back, 14km more…
He’s averaging 3:16 min/km through 15.4km
Really comfortable win, forward to Kalmar I guess
Thanks for flagging it and glad my pessimism was misplaced!
Come on Ali!
1:09 run, wins by 7 minutes
Why can’t he do that in the big races?
Good victory and with decent splits, maybe he’s progressing?
Because he can’t rip off the front of the bike? It does seem that even legal pace lines make a huge difference and mean the big races turn into a run race from the front bike pack.
