Going to be another long day for Skipper…
Cue more complaining about motos changing the race.
Huge lead for Ditlev and Laidlow, >10 minutes on chasing pack. Skipper at 13. Hard to see him making a podium even with his run given Lange is in the 10min group.
Ryf solo with a 10 minute lead over Norden and Langridge with Phillip Haug Sodaro at 13min
Both races have been a bit one way traffic right at the front. Laidlow back to his usual swim-bike-blow. Kona really was a bit of an outlier.
Ryf is going to smash Chrissy’s previous best time
For the size of the race, the prize purse really isn’t that good is it.
If Joe can hang on for fifth, he gets €2k. I can’t imagine there’s much profit in that. Gotta be hard when you’ve just had a baby, have all the disruption associated with that and that almost certainly will impact performance and training, and knock out a decrnt result in a pretty stacked field, and don’t really earn anything.
That’s the published figure. There are likely to be appearance fees to make sure there’s a suitable level of competition. And sponsors probably cover travel and accommodation.
Ah, ok. Fair enough. I guess Joe is now at the level to warrant those sort of things. I guess that’s the advantage of Challenge. I’m not sure Ironman offer that anywhere, based on what all the various athletes have said about their finances as a pro
Think I recall Steve Mckenna has said Challenge give him appearance fees along with the prize money. He talked about the debate to miss Challenge Korea this year which has been a staple win for him to fight it out at IM Cairns for PTO points.
Catching up on the run looks like both races have been great for 2nd onwards, and a supreme show to admire for the wins.
8:08 for Ryf (50\4:22\2:51)
Lange had a cracking run in second 2:30:27,
He was talking on the HTT podcast that it might be the best ever chance for a sub 2:30, as the Germans haven’t yet brought in the shoe restrictions on prototypes
he had a toilet stop as well (apparently)…so kinda did it
Montreal mixed team relay cancelled due to poor air quality from forest fires. As was Mont Tremblant 70.3 earlier
Roth was bloody fast this year (Maybe I should have entered).
Daniela is clearly back on form with a new WR, just when everyone was writing her off.
Dietlev’s time was argueably better than Bluemenfelds Cozumel time (with a downhill swim)
Nice WC could be really interesting in the Men’s
Daniela has really thrown down the gauntlet for Kona
Have they posted anything to strava?
177km bike.
41km run
Wilf on 2nd half of the
…he’s not sure why
.
Skipper has the run as about 400m short
Skipper got the London Marathon at 51km, though
Can’t help it, I’m a Daniela fan and I’m really really chuffed for her. When Daniela is on form, she’s unbeatable
Just seen in her insta stories, that she’s back with Brett. He even went to watch the race.
I can get him a job on the cleaners …
Sorry … couldn’t help myself !
