Project 21

My rather dismal performance at Keswick park run sums up where my running is at the moment with a spectacular fall from grace since covid…

my old mate Greg ran 18:56 at blyth (M60-64) and Noel ran 21 something probably near Bedford somewhere…i always beat Noel and Greg at all distances up to marathon…

so…i am fed up with wheezing and waiting for scans (another chest x-ray booked on 31st)… it’s time to crack on with regaining some fitness and losing some weight.

so…place your bets here, please…from 26:49 to mid 23s by close of 2025…then something in the 21s by the summer of 2026…

Following …!
Park runs seem vastly different
From flat fast concrete to full blown cross country in places … yuck !
Hard course ?
Full out effort ?
How heavy are you ?

Surely first target is 25 mins ( 12 kph)
Good luck

they ruined one of my fave ‘tracks’ with tarmac…although i understand why…

Well that’s a good start…two broken ribs…and a a murky patch at the bottom of my left lung they now think warrants antibiotics…scan on friday…

I thought this some kind of back to the future project to start with… return to 2021.

I feel a bit like the original post at the moment but havent got two broken ribs (and fluid on the lungs?) as an excuse.
My plan is just to train regularly and consistently, be patient, the improvements then tend to take care of themselves based on past experience.

Given the ribs, lungs, when that improves I reckon run improvements will come surprisingly quickly. Might be even sanding bagging a bit with mid 23s in 2025 but that depends on the ribs I guess.

Whats the plan? If you get to mid 23s will the commitment still continue or would you be relatively happy with that and ease off?

Good targets I think.

Let’s hope the antibiotics help JC :crossed_fingers: and those ribs heal quickly - did you break them through coughing?
Particularly like that your project is an 18mths long project. Enjoy the journey

As for bets…I’m adding three months to the goal, to allow you to get healthy before you start.

no confidence there then… :clock1:

ironically, tripping over on a run around Buttermere on day one of the project…

Thanks

irony no2, i’ve barely coughed since breaking the ribs…

How is project 21 going?

stalled whilst my ribs heal…took a walk over the hills for a pub lunch yesterday though…

off to lanza next week so will be kayaking, cycling and hopefully a bit of swim and run…

Interesting…77.2 kg which suggests drinking slightly less, no crisps and not eating three huge meals can be of benefit even if I am not training…

61.3% hydration
60.3 kg mass
17.75 body fat

Hey @explorerJC just occurred to me we have broadly similar goals this year although yours is on land and mine is in the water.

Want to go head to head? Your 5km run v my 1500m pool swim?

Current bar here is 23m45s.

Person who posts the fastest time buys the other a Fossies and they have to drink it :beers:

Bit of extra motivation?
