Tbh, rather than just scrap the whole lot at short notice, I think it would’ve been good if they just did the swim for sh!ts & giggles (for those who want to) and given everyone a deferral.

Probably the only people who have never held onto a kayak or other items in the water are super swimmers.
Triathlon Beginners . And they wonder why the number of deaths at Ironman has increased when a beginner is doing an Ironman as a first tri, and OW swim, and asks as its a long way can they hold onto a kayak

Im not a “super swimmer”, as I bet most on here aren’t, and i wonder how many hold onto kayaks 
I do grab my tow float sometimes to admire the view at St Andrews and when I’ve done in water coaching

Maybe the definition of super-swimmer is someone who can swim 3.8K without holding on to a kayak.
It is pretty hardcore when you think about it.

Ironman: preparation is optional
(I feel like this is the way endurance sports are going and people believe they can hack their way to ‘absolute legend’ status for making the cut-off)
