Quality Slowtwitch/IMJ Threads

Ah I see :+1:

It’s not a classic but it is a funny - total character assassination of an AG World Champ. As usual totally unrelated to the topic:

Anyone know what the “censored” word is that’s caused the latest American handwringing in the Iron Cowboy thread?

Retarded

On the Texas thread as well, actually

Ah I see. I listen to some American comedian podcasts and I’d heard that word had become very much frowned upon over there. Tom Segura got into some hot water over it a while back I recall. Bunch of spaz’s (joke).

My BiL was born with his umbilical cord around his neck and it wa6s spotted soon enough, so he has learning difficulties. He is fairly independent and healthy. When he was younger some local yoofs were trying to insult him calling him “a spastic”. He replied “I am not a spastic, I’m retarded”. Left them no where to go

Obviously it was a.lomg time ago and that was the clinical description then.

IMJ bike kit or tri kit discussion, one reply “far more experienced people than me on here but I’ve seen plenty of iron distance races :slightly_smiling_face:. You say you have cycling experience so if you have done a few century rides then I would say cycling kit and change into run kit”
Since when did watching a few races give you the experience to give kit advice  he got loads of likes also

at least he was honest … i guess.

Depends on who is asking but if you just want to finish and it’s your first, it’s not the worst advice in the world.

Yeah, my first urm…six Ironmans I wore tri shorts and changed tops for the bike & run :tipping_hand_man: Then I finally sprung for a one-piece.

i wore a camelbak and my running shoes on the bike for my first Iro… erm i mean Oly tri! haha

Because you have ridden a few century rides you should wear bike shorts and change into run kit?

tri shorts!, and Ive changed tops during the midnightman, Point is not necessarily that he said change kit but the reason given and the fact people go to an ironman group asking for advice, and you get a bloke that’s stood at the side and cheered people

Made it to Kona for that stand at the side and cheered people, you should respect my advice.

I think I see what you mean about taking advice from someone who has watched but I still say, riding the bike leg in bike kit and doing a complete change into run kit is not a bad idea. It’s not the best idea but certainly not the worst IMO.

IIRC even as late as IronWar 1989 Mark Allen and Dave Scott were changing from bike kit to run kit in T2

Expect they picked up that tip on IMJ

Woah there, no one said he cheered. I reckon he sits there throwing stones and yelling “you’ve blocked all the roads, I’m trapped in my home!!!”

Yes, I remember the cameras having to pan away from them in T2 as they got naked! (1989)

On that basis, there’s a load of folks in Lanza with bad sunburn and dodgy tatts, eating all-day breakfasts while drinking pints of Heineken who would be perfect for giving advice to would-be ironmen
