To be fair I expect you could find a pic of some beautiful scenery in rural Lancs, versus a grotty road in Peurto Del Carmen or Teguise and spin it differently

Pretty much what I was going to say. Tenby is a very nice area and I’m not sure why more people don’t appreciate the race. (lets pretend 2017 didn’t happen ).

Still, even though it’s been going for a while there’s a passion for Tenby among Welsh triathletes that you don’t find among the English for Tenby.

I do! :raised_back_of_hand: I love it. 2017 was a battle though :cloud_with_rain:

Eh?
Ever since I saw the lifeboat house on Grand Designs I’ve wanted to visit.

But Drakeford has put a stop to me ever visiting Wales again.

I have no idea what that means? Why wouldn’t any English person have a passion for racing at Tenby? Why go otherwise?

Why should the English triathlete be held to a higher standard than the Welsh one? Do the Welsh have a passion for any races in England?

he’s an arse - just ignore him and visit my lovely home country. Tenby and the surrounds are fab (if you exclude the oil terminal at Milford Haven)

I was breathing through my arse 2nd time up that - and my quads were cramping badly.

It’s pretty bad in the wet. Too far back and you pull a wheelie, too far forward and the rear wheel just spins!

Hamburg had some pretty uninspiring sections too on the bike, around the harbour/industrial zone etc. Not to mention zero support; in fact the only crowd was at the turn around, the rest of the 186km, yes 186… was like 28 days later!

The run made up for it though :+1:

That bridge was bleak :flushed:

Been loads and love it, but if they’re going to ban cross border travel and invent their own rules, they can get their own economy running again.

Aix en Provence is beautiful

As is Lanzarote

I think you’ve missed what I was trying to say. Perhaps it was me.

The Welsh triathletes I know love the idea of racing at Tenby, almost to a (wo)man. It’s practically a rite of passage.

The English triathletes I know are a bit meh about racing at Bolton almost to a (wo)man.

My apologies, I see what you’re saying now. Yes that would be true (I’ve never been to Bolton though!)

I know it was poorly promoted (and lit ) but it’s shame IMUK moved away from the Sherborne area.

I like to do things in the UK and I reckon that Tenby course is so hard (and LCW) that you either vow to never return or think that there’s a little bit of that belongs to the town.

Personally, I can take or leave Tenby itself outside of the race but I do love that Pembrokeshire coast and as a family, we can’t wait to return to Hillend campsite in the Gower.

Exceptions to every rule.

There is definitely something special about IM Wales though. Perhaps they just got lucky when they selected Tenby as the host town.

Really enjoyed my time there despite it pissing it down and super excited to go back, if it’s ever on

Ive holidayed there three times as a child, the only reason I’ve been to Bolton is IMUK. I don’t think the locations are comparable really, and comparing the races without taking into account the location is difficult!

I suppose taking the courses and race history into account Wales might edge the course UK the history, but I’m sure people would argue the opposite. Both are reputed to have great support - which is usually the most important factor when people are out their slogging it.

Can we cop out and say they’re equally good for slightly different reasons?
