In the studies with the pickle juice the cramp went before it could have been digested so at best it was n the stomach so can’t have physiologically affected any salt levels in the body. Pretty sure they determined it was placebo.

Again from memory, wasn’t there a study about swishing carbohydrate in the mouth that gave performance benefits?

My understanding of the pickle juice, the salt taste was enough.

In my n=1 of double full quad cramp, crunching on a salt tab is way more than a placebo

Yep, I remember that one. Tricked the receptors into thinking carbs were coming. Assume it had a limited number of uses though!

Also tried bicarb few times ~10 years ago for swimming. Felt like gave some benefit over 1-2 minutes but nil noticeable at 4 minutes. Definitely not tasty and some mild stomach discomfort but thankfully no horror stories.

The mouth rinse stuff was Asker Jeukendrup’s work I think. Came from the realization that ingestion of carbs has a measurable effect faster than could be absorbed Hypothesized and later showed likely due to neural receptors in mouth since rinses have same effect. More an explanation of speed of onset, but as you say some limited application for people doing short-high intensity prone to stomach upset. Or holding the carb in mouth slightly longer before swallowing (not one for dentists. Or innuendo)

Extreme Endurance is best

Currently doing Zwift Running league in a team with Herbert Krabel, former editor of Slow Twitch, he’s a good runner.

Struggling to do 100km ride @97w AP in 5 hours, will I be OK in IMUK in 8 Weeks

… You’ve got this
… Just add in some long rides
… On Closed roads you will be an hour faster
… Talk in Miles not KM

It’s probably salvageable, but the guy needs to put in a lot of structured training to get in under cut off, positive vibes may make him feel better, but won’t actually help

Some guy called TeeJayPeeps getting involved, slapping the guy round the face with a wet fish

Are they real responses. (please say no)

They could be responses from people who’ve just given up on giving practical advice and are ‘soft trolling’ instead

I was reading about Lubbock 70.3 on ST which apparently not as hilly as the old course but still ‘hilly’ at 523ft of elevation. Good grief.

His power meter is probably just faulty

What does that make the Hever 70.3 I did. 1200m (4000 ft)? The himalayas…

yes one guy said he needs to do 3 * 6hr rides a week, and was deadly fucking serious as when asked he said, you can do 2 at the weekend and just need to find some time in the week for the 3rd. I guess he’s divorced, no kids and jobless

I thought he was being deadpan.
Not serious :man_shrugging:t4:

no telling on there, he did try to defend his position which is why I thought he was serious

Yes. They seem real.

Them: It’s miles for everything but short running races.
Me: Posts link to 64km hilly foot race at 5:25/km

Them: I’ve done 1,000m in 100km, is that hilly?
Me: Fuck no! Posts various massive rides at decent paces (3.5km elev over 262km at 26kmh)

Them: Pfft, TdF, they do 100km per day for 20 odd days.
Me: eh? Are you on drugs, pal?

I do not understand what their aversion to deferring is???
They are not going to finish.
I’m struggling to get my head around maybe doing the bike in just under 7 hours :face_vomiting:
And I’m serious.

With no wind and decent weather, I reckon I can dip under 6.5hrs, but any sign of rain and wind and DNF will be >34%
