In a crap swimmer, people who tell me to go for the hour and get in the group… I normally ignore.
Wouldn’t work for me.

Same for me.
Interestingly Skipper moaned about the moto riders at Lake Placid too. He didn’t make the lead group that day. I think it may have only been the first and second guys who were benefiting. Skipper did however run up to 3rd iirc
Like GB said. Are Facebook/Instagram the correct platforms for professionals to get their points across. I get this guy was probably venting but surely talking to the organisers is the right way to go about it
I read the post Matt put up but couldn’t see the pictures.
In all fairness that does seem like a lot of motor bikes…?!
Would he have won/ placed if they weren’t there?
No idea really, but social media rarely changes must but it’s funny to look at.
Joe Skipper posted the same photo on his Insta and said this:
This picture was from Ironman Switzerland this Sunday. This race has stirred up a big fuss as it was another race where motorbikes impacted the race. This time I was in the front group and experienced it for myself and although the motorbikes were generally riding to the side of the group the sheer amount of them (around 7) made it impossible for the guys that were behind to get back in the race and also trying to break the group up was pretty much impossible as the draft behind the group was massive so it kept everything together.
Something needs to happen regarding motorbikes as it’s terrible to hear of pros quitting the race after one lap when they see all the motorbikes and realise they are out of the race. Also it detracts from performances of athletes in the race as everyone focuses on the motorbikes. We really need to make sure this issue in triathlon gets sorted as it’s happening at virtually every race now.
I understand that was the deciding factor…
not on the route this year…
You choose your course, some are draft fests, others aren’t. The exception was Hamburg, the only good thing about that bike route was the policing of drafting, felt pretty effective. Elsinore had significant drafting packs. I didnt have any issue with drafting at Roth… but as usual I was out of position relative to the strongest triathletes, so spent most of my time passing. For most of the second lap, I was on my own.
I would be surprised if Thun was a course that you could draft on much. Possibly the first section of the lap which is flat along the lake.
My take on the whole thing is that the guy was pissed off to be well behind out of the swim, he saw the lead group passing in the opposite direction and just had enough.
It’s odd.
I agree with his message but because it’s come from Skipper, who I find immensely unlikeable, I’m finding myself trying to argue the point.
I like Joe but he’s terribly misguided at times. He could really do with some PR training I bet its really affected his sponsorship potential. You think how the youngsters coming through the BTF are so well drilled with interviews. It is entertaining though when Joe gets onto the podcasts.
I really don’t think he cares what any of us think at all…
I really like him but he has a terrible laugh, must be a slow news day.
He was actually pretty good on IM Talk on potential changes to the Collins Cup
Oh he cares.
Not sure if this link works, but Cav wasn’t happy with the moto-cameras at the TOB.

Yeah i saw that. Had a good old rant at the camera!
That’s unlike him.
The guys that had been dropped were already far enough back that they weren’t getting a moto draft. And the only other place the moto could have been would have been in front of Cav’s group, giving them a draft. So I think it was performative to try to get the moto to go ahead to benefit him
We need to send him a spoon.
From ST
“No way a flat should take that long to change. That seems amateur at that level of racing. Sam Long beat Blum fair and square.”
Blumenfeld had a puncture and lost 15 minutes. Yes, Sam Long did beat KB, but they werent in the same race. Seems like ST is switching Lionel mania for Sam Long Mania… to me, he is a bit like Lionel, without the attractive bits
I’d be annoyed at someone taking that long on a club run!
