No idea why it took long. Even so, KBs race was ruined by a mechanical

Everyone bangs on about Stadler’s flat in 2006(?) but his mechanic didn’t leave an unglued section. He copped heaps of shit for it, which was harsh, then he copped heaps of shit for his meltdown, which was not harsh.

Crap happens sometimes. At least flats are real, unlike McCormack’s ‘mechanicals’ when things weren’t going his way.

Pretty sure five minutes or fifty minutes wouldn’t make difference, he’s checked out of it unless it’s done almost immediately. The coverage cut out so I’m assuming he just stood their waiting for a mechanic to arrive and swap the wheel over.

Yeah exactly that. I guess the speed these guys are racing a flat means race over. Simple. So they’re not exactly carrying spares ready for a quick change. They’re standing on the side of the road waiting for a moto.

So stop, ditch the stupid moto mechanics and they can get in the broom wagon.

Haha, sponsorships. Got to keep going.

I think it’s psychological, they’ve been taught to give up to quickly. That “being in the train” is critical, etc. Just look at their desperation to get out of T1 - swim skins still on, zips broken, blah blah. It’s not ITU and they aren’t racing in a wind tunnel.

I guess that depends, what did LCB win by, 7 mins? That would have been plenty of time to fix a flat and still finish first.

Sure some races are close at the top10 are covered by 5 mins, but some have 5+min gaps between positions. While you might be part of a bike train and think it’s race over if you get a flat, you don’t know how many of those are well in the red and about to explode, either on the bike or run.

So surely they should all be prepared to change a tire as quickly as possible.

Does KB use tubular, tubeless or tubes? If he is on tubular, I imagine that he couldnt easily fix. Tubeless, if it doesnt seal, then fitting a plug should be reasonably quick. Putting an inner tube into a tubeless isn’t difficult, however, it is messy

It didn’t sound like a puncture TBH

“Unfortunately I was taken out of the race at about 65k into the ride due to a mechanical problem with my wheel. We will be working with Cadex to find out what happen”

Cadex are an Aussie brand. They sponsored the Transitions site for a while. He seemed like a top bloke. (forgotten his name).

Also, Just read the ST article on the 70.3 WC… Just a little confused why the 2 photos in the article were Taylor Knibb and Sam Long, who were both second, what about LCB and Gustav Iden? Surely they earned the right to have their pictures in the article

yeah, a widely believed myth.

When we won the West Midlands league in 1993 and 1994 we fully expected to be invited to the World Series, still waiting…

I thought that too, sure they covered it on QI at some point as well.

I thought Cadex were an offshoot of Giant?

Ooh hang on, maybe I’ve got my names mixed up.
