Quality Slowtwitch/IMJ Threads

I remember that, and have also tried to find it with no luck. He was doing it as a calling card for a job as a documentary film maker if I recall, and I thought got down close to 2:30, although maybe that is what he was targeting when he got injured.

Not sure why you would get slated. OK, he didn’t make the GB squad, but he did show that with 100% dedication a 20-something man with no running background can run a sub-3 marathon.

Wow - 2:30s even better. Yeah it was a good little couple of episodes. Glad someone remembers it. Wonder if it’s still out there

… I guess some people just took exception to the idea of him attempting to run in the low 2 hours mark. What is the qualifying time anyway - 2:10, 2:11?

Does anyone remember his name?

I recon @joex could get there. I went from 43year old 173cm tall 95kg non athlete to sub 3hour marathon runner in 6 years. It is hard, but it’s not exceptional

Fully agree that he should not be slated, aim high. In my early days on Tritalk, I set some pretty high targets, luckily I didn’t get slated. It may have taken me a bit longer, but I have hit those targets

Social media innit. People are just nasty

Look at that vociferous tirade at the vegan guy on IMJ

But all nice here, although @GrahamO added some spice occasionally

As this is the ST thread, I love the ST abuse, its so contrived, really amature level nastiness

:open_mouth: Ooh do tell

I remember that fella but can’t remember his name either. Loads of naysayers but at least he gave it a good shot.

Steve Way was a regular poster in the Sub-3 group on the Runnersworld forum (his handle was Marigold) from when he started posting good times. I believe the group is still going although the rest of the forum has fallen apart. There were quite a number of runners on there who were banging around the 2:30 mark on a regular basis.

Not sure why I struggled to find it last time I tried. Quick 2min google and:

Alex Vero, seems he’s still involved in creating content, less so in running.

athlete centred coaching…

Ha ha, I will be happy whatever the result of my training as I’m better than I was before. 3h30 I think is reasonable. For me. Especially if Anna can do it…uhoh maybe she is inspiring me after all? @FatPom :scream:

And I think you’re underplaying it, it is exceptional in any reasonable definition of the word except for elite marathon runners. 7 billion people in the world, what percentage have run a marathon, what percentage broke 3h…etc.

Now I’m not doing Wendover Woods, I was thinking of looking at Goodwood Marathon to see how my (hopefully strengthened) body will cope with 42.2kms.

I do wonder if this crumbling old body has a sub 3.30 in it?

Maybe but lets set up the socials behind it first. I’m sure we can get plenty of clicks and make you some influencer dollars with titles like “Old crumbling bod goes for super fast marathon time”

Wow is that it! How did you find it!!

“running documentary unfit to marathon gb”
2nd link takes you to a runner’s world forum discussing it, which gives the title “Running without Limits”

This isn’t social media though, it’s a relatively anonymous Forum. So no followers or revenue to be made from all the spin-off content etc.
