Race Day Nutrition and Storage

IDGAF :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I usually wear compression shorts underneath, a stupid neon green visor and a mesh white vest. Oh, and knee high compression socks.

I look enough of a tit as it is, without worrying about wearing a backpack.

Unlike @jeffb - I’d never wear one for a bike ride

Yes I dont think triathletes of all people are in a position to comment on the fashion status of other sports. We all look like bell-ends

No. I’m pretty sure all the Mums that see me collect my kids in cycling gear think I look the shizzle.

I cycle to work every day in my lyrca. Last Friday there was a dads day at my kids school. Just as I was leaving for work my daughter said are you coming later? I said yes. She replied I hope you are getting changed first, or ill pretend not to know you.

Yeah, but Dad’s don’t GAF!

Family in our road in the 80s had a baby-blue Skoda. There was no way the son (in my year) was ever being dropped at school in that. If the weather was bad, he would ask his dad to drop him a couple, of streets away :joy::upside_down_face:

That car is a collectors item now!

You wear a string vest a la Rab C Nesbitt? I guess it’d keep you cool!

It’s pretty damn good!
It’s a New Balance one. Better than the Nike DriFit stuff.

My fave ones are saucony one, it’s as light as a feather, and a craft one. Both cracking vests. My club one is a cheap shit one, and the difference is tremendous.

I have the Salomon S Lab Ultra 5, really nice and easy to live with. Wouldn’t mind trying a UD type with the bottles with straws also.

I use the Osprey duro and I love it!

Those hands have seen some labour!

Do you race in that?

7 races and I have yet to find a way of taking on liquid while running that works (for me.).

I tried a belt with 300ml bottles and it was too heavy and uncomfortable, I’ve tried ‘handle’ bottles and they just annoy me.
My latest is a profile belt with 250ml bottles that might just about be do able.

How much liquid do people take on board during the run? I’m on 500-750ml/hr during the bike but reckon I am lucky if I get 250ml/hr during the run and that can’t be good for me.

Probably take something at every single aid station, and would guess at maybe 1.5l or 2l aver the run?

I’ve done two 30 milers and a 40 with it.
Though I wouldn’t call it “racing”

It’s great.

Solpadeine Max soluble tabs.
427mg of sodium and 30mg caffeine per tab.

Took four of these on my 185k ride this Sunday and felt fricking amazing. Just put one in the bottle with each zero tab, the saltiness/codeine of the Solpadeine takes the edge off all of the gels/pain.

Legs never felt achey. Nor did my hands, or neck and back. No heat spots in my feet.

Doesn’t that contain ibuprofen? ibuprofen and strenuous exercise is a no no and is best avoided. Paracetamol is ok I think

No. Paracetamol and codeine.
