I wonder who gets to keep all the leftover spare carp from the unclaimed Special Needs bags at all these IM races? I hope it goes to cycling charities or local clubs and not into the bin…
It looked like they were all being scrapped at Bolton so I took my two spare ‘just in case’ tubes out and handed them over to the volunteers, hoping someone would make use of them
Why do you carry tyre levers if running tubs?
Sometimes they’re a bugger to get off.
I also have a disabled (trigger finger) right ring finger and left little finger, so can’t grip properly at the moment.
Ah OK. I’ve got a pair of HED Tri Spoke tubs but never used them in anger and wondered if I was missing a trick. For the size & weight of a set of levers, wouldn’t do any harm and makes my flat kit swappable between tubs & clinchers without any changes other than tub/tube.
Are you leaving an unglued section?
Yup, right oppo the valve.
A couple of levers really makes my life easier.
Did anyone else see the story about the energy drink used by the UAE team being blamed on the poor performance of the riders at the Tour? The claim is that the drink causes the riders’ bodies to absorb too much fluid - http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/change-in-sports-drink-blamed-for-uaes-poor-tour-de-france-performance/
The drink in question was NamedSport.
Inigo San Millan (sports medicine/physiologist with UAE) says it’s false and that they have been using the drink since April with no problems.
Electrolytes, I need more electrolytes during the run on hot days.
Yeah, 20 mile standalone runs in the heat are fine…but in an Ironman I need to be better prepared.
Despite a strip of inner tube tied in a knot over the top of it still managed to eject my spares canister on the first lap of the relays on Saturday. (God that perimeter road is rough in places, think a couple of fillings may have come out too )
It doesn’t have a nozzle like a drinks bottle to loop the band round so must have worked it’s way to the side. 2 more laps of bike checking out where it and the contents landed and a quick stop on the run to gather it all up.
I feel like I’m failing in my long runs and think it’s due to dehydration. Ordered a trail vest and some soft flasks this morning, hope they come soon.
I always carry water on a run over 60 mins. I sweat like a yak and massively dehydrate when running. I’ve be using a camel bak but to fill it weighs a tonne, and half full it sloshes.
Need a trail vest and flasks myself I think.
Which flasks did you get? After looking around I’m thinking of getting the Ron Hill ones as they seem to have a decent, wide mouth for filling & cleaning.
Most vests tend to come with matching flasks, as they all vary in size etc.
Decathlon Kalenji vest and 500ml soft flasks. Their vests don’t come with the soft flasks (but then they are 1/3 of the price of the branded vests.
After Elsinore 70.3, in cleaning my Torhans Aero 30 I stupidly stuck my finger through the splash cap too hard and ripped it. It’s non-replaceable. In riding with it Saturday morning, I had fluid going everywhere.
Only one UK stockist, so £75 down the drain in order to get one here for Nice, all for a moment of stupidity. Won’t make that mistake again #sigh
An interesting parallel. Yaks have very few functioning sweat glands, which is one of the reasons why they struggle in any kind of warm temperatures.
haha!
Humans are probably the best at sweating aren’t they!?
My sweat rate seems to have increased this year if that’s possible. It’s gone from sweaty bar steward to seriously sweaty!! When i ran my two commutes last week - about 17 degrees and humid on the way in, probably 22/23 on the way home - my clothes are literally drenched. I don’t get the massive salt stains though, so i assume i’m a reasonably efficient sweater (going back to Christof Schweining’s theories), but i’m losing a lot of blood plasma volume.
I did suffer with really bad cramps for the first time in ages on the back end of the run. But that’s got to be a combo of the heat, fluid intake and the 2 hour morning run. Calves were already tight from doind no maintenance on them all summer. So i would say it was a real combination of factors. Still something to keep an eye on as i increase my training, but i’m hoping i can just stick to the High 5s and not need to find something stronger like @stenard uses.
I know, I just like the saying. Think you schooled me on that on the old site.
